What tire sizes are these? (bought a fork :) )

Bought a cessna 182 Heavy duty fork.

I took some pics at Valdez but cannot see the size of the tires.

This first pic are the 7.00 x 6 on the mains and a 6.00 x 6 on the nose?
Or 8.00s and a 7.00 on the nose?

Image

6.00 x 6 on all thre tires? or 7.00S and 6.00 on the front?
Image

And this one? (too big for my operations)

I'd say the last one is 8.50x10s on the mains and 8.50 on the nose. For what I've seen of your operations I'd say this is the perfect setup for you.

Re: What tire sizes are these? (bought a fork :) )

Use up the tires you have first. Waste not want not. I have flown with him when I was vacationing in is neck of the woods. I sence that gravel bars are not in his future. I have 600's on the nose and 700's on the mains. Works well. I have been told that a 700x6 will fit in a 310 fork but I have not seen it done myself.

straighttail has the 182 heavy fork, he would know what would fit.
I say the first pic is 8.50 all the way around?

Re: What tire sizes are these? (bought a fork :) )

When you put a 8.50 x 6 on a Landis fork it "fills" the fork. No room for any bigger tire.
You can see the tire "fills" the fork on that first picture.
I agree it has 8.50's all the way around.

Re: What tire sizes are these? (bought a fork :) )

In the first photo the nose gear linkage looks pretty colapsed and the tail is still low. Need to cut some of the lower strut off to keep the plane level and the strut up where it should be?

It does not matter what everybody else is running. If he bought a 310 fork he is not putting an 8.50 on the front.

Yep. Think it will be time for some 8.50x10s for me soon

Why do that when you have a back window and squishy main gear? :D :D :D :D I have a 600x6 nose gear and it looks like I have more prop clearance than that.

Re: What tire sizes are these? (bought a fork :) )

Don't put *too* much extra air in the strut. You might have a surprise when you land. Bouncing the gear against the extended scissor stop can do some bad things to the scissor, the lock ring, and/or the outer tube where the stop hammers into it.

If your heavy strut was shortened for stock mains, and you want extra length to use with taller mains, you can find the chromed struts on e-bay pretty reasonably. The one I got with my fork was shortened to have the plane level with 6" mains. An intact strut gives me almost 3" additional prop clearance with normal strut pressures and extension. It makes for *much* smoother operation with the extra travel. The extra clearance makes the difference on a lot of strips on my 182 since I have perhaps the lowest riding 182 out there.

Re: What tire sizes are these? (bought a fork :) )

This is what Im doing.
For the dry season will put a 6.00x 6 on the nose and 7.00 x 6 on the mains, and during the rainy season 7.00 x 6 on the nose and 8.00 x 6 on the mains.

Now which 7s and 8s of these should I buy?

ply tire press weight
max load
7.00-6 6 AA1H4 AIR TRAC 6 38 1900 9.5
7.00-6 8 AA1H6 AIR TRAC 6 54 2550 9.4
8.00-6 4 AA1J2 AIR TRAC 6 23 1350 10
8.00-6 4 AA1J4 AIR TRAC 6 35 2050 10.3

Was thinking to choose 7.00-6 6 AA1H4 AIR TRAC 6 38 1900 9.5
And 8.00-6 4 AA1J2 AIR TRAC 6 23 1350 10
I choose those so I could ran lower pressure.

Recommendations?

What's the reasoning for switching tires between wet and rainy season? The difference in speed, if it's even detectable, will be hardly noticeable. When I switch between 8.00s and 26" bushwheels I can hardly tell any change in airspeed.

Dry season a do long trips, Nicaragua, Panama and Salvador. My plane already its very slow 130mph indicated.

Wow. My 6" on the nose eats up 4-5 mph. No kidding. I've swapped back and forth three times this year. The wider fork and larger tire is a big deal right behind the prop.

As for the mains, it ate up a few more mph. I only swapped it once, with a set of used 8's. I got back all that speed when I went back to 6's. It doesn't take too much time anymore as I slowly get better at it, and I swap back to the smaller fork when I don't think I'll need it for a while.

It only costs 17 dollars or so and a little fluid to make the swap. I figure it paid for a month or so of hangar rent this year so far to make the swaps since so much of it was cruise time. It makes some sense to me, and it coincides with regular oil changes more or less, so the process isn't a big deal.

I suppose it might not make as big a difference with conventional gear and a slower plane.

Well rob only does 90 mph no matter what. I don't think he goes fast enough to see a diffrence yet
