What web browser are you using?

I primarily use Firefox. It does everything better, hands down. It's more secure, has great add-ons, and renders HTML correctly. Google Chrome or Apple Safari are a close second.

Internet Explorer sucks, I'm not going to pull any punches on this one. I understand that it's the most popular simply by virtue of being pre-installed with Windows, but that's no reason to avoid installing a superior, free web browser: http://www.getfirefox.com

I was working on some day job stuff today and had to test some code in Internet Explorer, but I don't have a Windows machine or even a Windows virtual machine to test with, so I had to use a screenshot service (Adobe Browser Lab.)

Man, BCP looks terrible on Internet Explorer 6! It's alright on IE7 apparently. I won't support IE 6 in future version of the website, so if you use it, you're out of luck.

Oh, Firefox has built-in spell checking too. :) It underlines in red words that are misspelled. You right-mouseclick the underlined word and it gives you suggestions for correct spelling.

/End plea for upgrade to better browser...

Good point GL. Apparently Vimeo is launching a mobile service that will work on the iPhone. Currently it's only available to Vimeo Plus users though.

Re: What web browser are you using?

Firefox has become so bloated and loads so slow now that sometimes I think I accidentally clicked Internet Explorer (which I also use at work, unfortunately.) I suppose there is something you can do to kick it in the butt to speed up again, but installing Chrome was easier.

Re: What web browser are you using?

Chrome has an extension available that will emulate IE in a tab for you developers out there.

I like Chrome a lot, switch about a year or so ago and never looked back. Started using the Dev channel this summer for the extension support, they recently pushed extension support to Beta so i'm using that now. I like how my bookmarks can sync between my multiple computers with out any extraneous help.

I just started to use Firefox this last month. I found it to be way better than Internet Explorer.

Re: What web browser are you using?

Being a massive nerd, I've been using Firefox since it was in beta, and still do for development stuff, but a year or so ago I switched to Safari for non-work browsing, and recently switched to Chrome on the Mac. I like it!

Like you, I need to use Internet Explorer every now and then to debug a problem a user's having. Painful! :-&

Re: What web browser are you using?

@Oregon180... Were you using it when it was Firebird? ;)

Chrome is much faster and lighter, but I've found in a few cases that it won't run some javascript code correctly. Firefox has become pretty bloated, but I cannot live without some of the extensions for dev work (Firebug & Greasemonkey.) Either way, it's a better choice that IE. BTW Safari and Chrome both use the same underlying renderer: Webkit...which came from KHTML, a KDE project for you linux nerds.

Re: What web browser are you using?

I've got an NT4 cd around here somewhere. If you install NT4, and don't install any service packs, you get IE2. I pray your website is good enough that it can at least handle IE2! :D

Re: What web browser are you using?

Recently switched to firefox and have been pleased. Less issues then IE. Been dabbling with Chrome and like it, but I am mainly just surfing the web, not doing any technical work.

Re: What web browser are you using?

Bummer to hear about IE 6. I'm on my company computer 95% of the time and that is what I've got. I asked our IT guys if there are plans to move on to something more up to date and they say no...which boggles my mind. I think that this older version of IE is why I've been getting so many popup ads as well as issues with my yahoo account not working so well. I don't have that problem on my home computer using IE8.

Re: What web browser are you using?

We use IE at work, but at home I mostly use Firefox. I sometimes use Chrome too, just for something different. I've tried Safari, but it didn't really grab me so I haven't used it at all. Firefox is my "go to" browser, but I still use IE for some stuff too.

Re: What web browser are you using?

I run Firefox on my MAC, but have just recently downloaded Chrome and sometimes use Safari -- NEVER use IE any more. Firefox is great, but Chrome is coming on. Chrome on the MAC doesn't have a mechanism for managing your bookmarks as it does on the PC -- so, until they get this issue resolved, I will mostly use Firefox.
