Re: You know your wife is a keeper when....

My wife does not like to fly but she is happy I do and take our son. I once made a deal for a PA12 airframe off of Bstormers one afternoon. The next morning I'm hooking up my flatbed trailer and told her I'm going to dallas to buy some old airplane parts. I didn't tell her about writing a 12 grand check till I got back, she never flinched. She does like to go to the airport, hang around and drink coffee in the lobby and visit with other airport bums.

Though I somehow lucked in to a good one this time.
Maybe she won't squawk when I price out that B-200 King Air.

I won't comment on "I lucked into a good one this time",
But, the KingAir 200….
If there ever was a plane to compare to the legendary DC-3!

If I were to start buying Lottery Tickets, and win, I would own a KA200.
The most enjoyable aircraft I've ever flown! (more than nine type ratings)
Screw all the Jets…. they are boring.… and mostly limited to boring airports.
Screw all the PC-12's and the like too. Real turbine powered airplanes have two engines…. and propellers!
There aren't a lot of landing sites that I've been in my 185 that I couldn't go into with a 200…. on high float gear of course!
Shit, if I got one, the wife would probably start talking to me again…. Hmmmm, maybe I shouldn't get one :?
On second thought, maybe I'll keep the 185 :)

BTW, I wouldn't trade the wife for anything less than a '84 or newer 200.
PM me with any offers :)
Pictures on request!

I hear you about the King Airs, I fly a C90B for work and it's great. Now that I have a Maule it's a toss up as to which one's more fun to fly!

What about the flip side of this coin - the "You know your husband is a keeper when..."? I am one of the lucky lady pilots who married another pilot! He's been my flying buddy on many an occasion over the 40+ years of our marriage! So... what about the lady pilots on this forum?

My Amy's a keeper!

She set up and has been more on top of monitoring the progress of my "airplane fund" account than I have!

Redbaron180 - I wondered why this thread came to such an abrupt standstill! Thanks for restarting it! Regardless of whether that person is husband or wife or boyfriend/girlfriend, we are fortunate when we have someone in our life who supports (or goes along with) our flying addiction!

Not flying in New Mexico this weekend due to the weather!

My wife gave me flying lessons for my birthday many years ago and has helped and supported my flying ever since. Besides she does all the book keeping and is a damn fine cook.

Re: You know your wife is a keeper when....

My wife has flown with me in a few different planes. Just recently I bought a 7AC and the day I got signed off I went home and picked her up and landed back at the airport. The CFI was waiting for my first solo return and walked up as we taxi'd in........my wife gets out and looks him right in the eye and says "I want to learn how to fly".......yep she's a keeper.

Re: You know your wife is a keeper when....

Well, my wife is a solid keeper. And as much as I would like to change it, she will never anymore than just tolerate my airplane/aircraft/flying fetish.
We have been married 40+ years, and she has been a great mother to our two sons. She balanced her showering of love on the boys as they grew with enough discipline/firm guidance that they are successful as adults in their own careers (eldest is mid BSEE career, younger is 13 years into NSW career).
She is a good housekeeper (balances me), and has worn a lot of different "hats" at appropriate times during our marriage. For example, she is both frugal and judicious with our financial resources. She is very emotionally stable (no WUMS!*) and is pretty much always very easy to be around. She is a good cook, very organized, quite efficient, and it would be very nearly impossible to replace her.
She is great in enough other (all?) areas to more than counterbalance her lack of love for airplanes. At least in my book.
Above and beyond all that, she tolerates ME!

Re: You know your wife is a keeper when....

when she spends 3 days up to her arm pits in the tunnel of an old 180 cleaning out 50 yrs worth of engine oil and sand and mud using the vacuum, solvent and elbow grease while also taking care of a 3 month old baby girl and 2 old guys working on various other parts of the plane LOL. I think her arms are more scratched up and swollen than mine are. Next time I gotta do that job I think I am going to track down the Chinese circus midgets that Cessna hired to build the damn planes to begin with and hire them to reach shit in the tunnel.

When she spends the entire winter in a wall tent in Montana while you are trying to build your house. Oh yes, I was living in a condo in east Tennessee finishing up another job while she was in the tent from November - mid March. Did not camplain one single time!!

The photo below is her living quarters and was taken last January when it was about 3 degrees.
