Always see pretty college girls there, super nice folks and they offered me supper last year passing through. You can camp there and spend a few days get adopted by the crew. I thought the name of the pilot was Jacque and he had his personal Pacer sitting there also. Here is a sample of what you see right there. Great base of operations if you have a few fuel jugs,,,,,

A beautiful spot for sure; spectacular scenery and thanks for the video scout.

When I was there, I noticed the Helio tied down massively. I asked the grumpy pilot about it and all he said was "the wind can blow here". Yeah, I thought, no big deal we had perfect CAVU and forecasts surely it won't blow tonight. I spent 3-hours that night trying to hold the wing down, in my underwear, in freezing rain. Learned my lesson. What the grumpy bastard flying the Helio didn't tell me is that most nights, the adiabatic winds come roaring out of the glacial valley to the West. Don't let that discourage anyone from camping there as it is a great spot as scout says, just be sure to tie you're plan down facing the canyon. AND have good tie down anchors!

I think Mt Logan, 2nd highest peak in N. America is west of there.

Blackrock,,,

Funny story about the grump. Once I drove in there with a Jeep Rubicon and crossed the strip. Got a lecture I didn't need from some Nazi creep LOL; the whole vacant space and driveway before the buildings is airstrip for funk sakes... Flying on another trip coming from Whitehorse I saw what I thought was smoke near the slims bridge. I was at 10000 ft but dropped down with the idea of going up river to look at some glaciers. I had a PA-11 following me and assured the less than enthusiastic pilot that the loss of altitude and time would be well worth it. Bad idea. The smoke was silt and sand blowing downhill from the icefield miles above. They hit us all of a sudden at a certain altitude and ruined my plans as grand guide for the day. The winds can suck but I have seen Kluane Lake like a mirror just as many times as all riled up.

Yes, I should have mentioned the lake was mirror smooth when we arrived and by the time we left. That would be a great place to base camp and take several days exploring the area by plane. I've had that in the back of my mind for the next trip to AK..
