Cory, I think you're set up would be just fine for Peavine and Jake's bar and even Glacier Creek. 850s or the next bigger tire or the next are ALWAYS going to be nicer to absorb some of the shock as opposed to transfer it to the airframe, but the reality is your set up and airframe will get you there and home without problems.

Aircraft Spruce sells one reasonably priced if you don't want to fabricate your own.

I second Matt 7GCBC... I think 8.50s would be nice but 8.00 would do okay.

This may be the perfect opportunity though to convince Dee you need the 29" setup with a Landes and 8.50 on the nose :). $$$$

Thanks for the input guys. It's appreciated! The Landes setup is on the wish list but you hit the nail on the head...$$$ :D . So unfortunately I don't think it will get done before next summer. I'll check out the tail skid idea too. I know I've seen them in Aircraft Spruce as mentioned.

My wife after landing Glacier Creek last year: "So you landed here to prove to me that we need bushwheels, right?" :)

I'm on 8.50's. We got in and out fine (nothing fell off), and the other strips we went to in the Wrangells were no problem. I'm sure people land rough stuff all the time on 8.50's. To me though, it felt like I'd walked up to the line where eventually I was going to break something. Next time I go, I'll be on bigger tires! :D

Well Zane, it's not that I've kept away from this thread out of envy- It's that I had to go into full-on work mode directly after the Airmen's show, and I'm just now surfacing for air. Thanks for letting the rest of us tag along vicariously. Your camera work and video production are truly prime time. I wish I could have made it three 170s, even if only for the chance to hang out some more with a great crew of characters. In the meantime, if you keep making 'em, I'll definitely keep watching 'em. =D>

Great video and write up Zane! You have a real knack for both the writing and the film making, I'm looking forward to hearing about your next adventure!

I know that feeling well--I started getting it more often than I wanted, right before I gave in and finally coughed up the $$$ for 29s.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but once you get used to your bigger tires, the feeling starts to come back again (...pretty sure I could land there with 35s... #-o ).

So you are saying I need to go straight to 35s? Great, I'll let my wife know.
