1,000 Hours of Flying Retrospective

My logbook ticked over the 1,000 hour mark this summer. While I know this still puts me firmly in noob territory compared to most on here, it still felt substantial to me as a weekend warrior private pilot.

Once I started looking back through some old pictures I was pretty amazed at all the adventures we've had that have been made possible by flying. Being able to share most of those adventures with our kids has been one of the highlights of my life.

My aviation life started at age 5 when my dad and I built a Goldberg Falcon 56 model airplane together. At age 29 I had the chance to start working on my pilot's license. Since then, We've flown pretty much all over the lower 48 and up to Alaska. Hopefully, the next 1,000 hours will be just as fun!

I put together this little video. Forgive me if It's a bit self-indulgent to post this here, but I thought there might be some folks just starting out -- either with flying or with starting a family -- who might be inspired by it. I've gotten to know some great people along the way, so there are also some cameos by Blackrock, Highroad, Zane, Alex, and others. I'm sure you'll also recognize many of the places.

Congratulations on your 1,000hr mark , thanks for sharing.
Nice pictures.
I see you Mt bike, we should plan a Mt bike trip , where the ride start at the airport, so it is a fly and ride.
Do you know rides like this?
So far I know Ranger Creek which has spectacular trails.

I started 6 years ago and cannot get enough flying, its too much fun specially backcountry flying, also met lots of great people.

That was so cool! Thanks for sharing. (Funny thing; I just passed my 1,000 hour mark too. But I don't have a kickass video to go along with it.)

Wow, great way to look back over the years! I really enjoyed that and found myself remembering several adventures I hadn't thought about in a while! Fun to see your kids grow up in the photos, and the shots of Maddie bring back a lot of good memories. Looking forward to showing Heidi.

I passed my 1000th hr sweating out my IFR check ride!

That was awesome, proud of you man! I'm happy to have crossed paths in a few of those adventures. I also think I may have gotten some dust in my eye when I saw the photos of tiny Lillian, considering what is ahead for me.

This is what it's all about.

Awesome Kristian. I am even more of a noob then you. Trying hard to hit the 500 hr in 5 years. Have about 80 more to go before next April. Not sure I'll make it. That so much fun to look back at all the times you enjoyed. Good luck on the next 1000!

Excellent video. It's fun to see your kids grow as time went on. Nice touch with your daughter in the BCP shirt, too. What a great family album.

Great video! It is so cool to see the kids, keep 'em coming!

Highroad, you'll do fine on your IFR check ride. I remember doing mine, I passed but just barely. IFR was about precision and detail, which is all fine and good, the thing to remember is: if you continue and do your commercial, it is actually kind of fun, doing the different maneuvers, etc, I enjoyed it. Good luck.

Great video. Watching it (almost) makes me wish I had kids!
I've got quite a bit more flying time than you, but I suspect you've got me badly beaten in the number of great adventures logged. keep up the good work!
