172 SKIS

Looking for skis for my 172, and yes the little wheel is in the front. If anyone has or knows anyone willing to part with any please let me know.

Thanks

Re: 172 SKIS

I presume you are looking for straight skis. I'd give Aero Ski a call in Brooten, MN.

A set of Aero 3000 on the mains and a 2000 on the nose would work well.

And I think you can get them approved.

Used, they'll be scarce as hens teeth.

Re: 172 SKIS

This is what they said:

Sorry it took so long to reply. We do have skis approved for the 172 that have been converted to a taildragger. We do not have nose skis if yours is a tricycle gear. We could help you with the main skis if one could dig up a nose ski somewhere. I know Federal had made some years ago.

Best Regards,

Re: 172 SKIS

Check with Landis there in Anc. Have used them on C206 for years. Just a tip stay away from warm wet sticky snow. Not enough HP with 172.

Re: 172 SKIS

Check with Air Taxi guys or mechanics on lake hood there a few out there that use skies on tri gear Cessna's. They should be able to direct u to the stuff u need. Just be careful with wet deep snow and warm wx....U could be spending the night  But u would have all night to snowshoe a runway 8) U do have snowshoes ? And hope it freezes.
Hope u are just planning to fly from Lake Hood to your cabin up in the valley where u have a snow machine to pack a runway. If u are planning on tearing around the state testing all the good looking landing spots ....200 miles from nowhere, [-X u might want to up grade to bigger A/C with more horse power. :D

Re: 172 SKIS

Kehler also makes them. One set of used hydraulic wheels ski's on kijji right now. $19000 Can. There was a used manual set for $7K on there last year also. Problem is skiis on a trike 172 is almost worth as much as the plane. Kehlers are the only option if you have tubular gear.

Re: 172 SKIS

I'd go find a mechanic who knows something about skis, and see what you might be able to put together. Give Burl Rogers a call at Lake Hood, and see what he has to say.

As Don says, you're not going to have a "Go anywhere" ski plane in any case, but if you just want to go from groomed strip to groomed strip...... And, frankly, a stock 170 on skis falls into pretty much the same category.

But I suspect you're going to have to get something field approved, and as one poster noted, it may be cheaper/easier to switch airplanes if you really want a ski plane.

That said, go back and read Don C's notes in this thread.....that pretty much applies to ANY ski plane operation at some level.
