'18 Denver Area Meet and Greet - May 12th - Chaparral (CO18)

I wasn't able to make this last year, but it hear it was a hit so I figure we should try it again. Get together to talk airplanes and do some flying.

Denver area / Front Range meet and greet on Saturday May 12th 2018 from 11:00am till 1:00pm (weather dependent) at Chaparral. Approx 30 NM east of Denver. Two grass runways in good shape with plenty of parking. No facilities / restrooms but there should be running water and we'll bring out a grill.

NOTE: MUST SIGN E-WAIVER found here prior to attending:
http://flycolorado.org/index.php/airstr ... ral-kiowa/

CTAF FREQ: 122.9

NOTE: Rwy 11/29 has been shortened to 1800 ft due to fire/burn area. Land after the cones marking threshold 11.

I'll plan on grabbing some basics from Costco like burgers and dogs. Post with any suggestions or questions. If you plan on making it also post here for a rough head count.

Thanks to Orlo for letting us use the strip!

Cool! Can I drive in? We're camping that weekend and could possibly detour there on our way up.

For those wanting to drive. The airstrip is accessed by a series of dirt roads that aren't exactly marked well, but if you google the following address it will get you close enough to the airstrip to find the entry road.
21669 Way of Joy, Deer Trail, CO 80105

BazzLow- Thanks for setting this up. I'll definitely plan on stopping by.

I'll try to make it again--fun last year. There is a restroom there, that the owner has constructed.

Sure thing! Hopefully I get my repaired heat box back in time otherwise I might be bumming a flight or driving in as well. Either way I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!

Re: '18 Denver Area Meet and Greet - May 12th - Chaparral (C

Looks like it'll be a great turnout! I counted somewhere between 15-20 airplanes (a few more that haven't posted here). There is plenty of parking on the southwest corner of the strip.

I'm planning on bringing a couple portable weber grills and grabbing a couple packs of Italian sausages and buns from Costco. Nothing fancy but something to eat. If anyone driving can bring a bigger grill let me know.

The weather looks a little iffy for Saturday right now but being Colorado that could change by the minute so I'll keep my fingers crossed it doesn't rain.

Please remember to sign the waiver. The link is on my original post. Also on that link is airport information. Lastly be sure to use 122.9 to communicate at Chapparal.

I can't make it but I'll pass this on to my dad and some other folks who don't frequent BCP.

Looks like I'll be driving out. Have lots of room in my Astro van. Do we still need a grill? I have a propane grill of standard size, can also bring a few chairs and a table. Cooler? Ice?

Re: '18 Denver Area Meet and Greet - May 12th - Chaparral (C

I stuffed my small propane grill in the back of the skywagon. It's nothing special but should get the job done. If you want to drive out some ice that'd be great. I got some basics, italian sausages, chips and bottled water. Feel free to bring anything else you'd like to throw on the grill.

Looks like low clouds in the morning but should be clear by the time we get there!
