182 3rd Passenger Window?

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

182 3rd Passenger Window?

I have a question for everyone here, my friend has a 56 model 182, it is my understanding this is the same airframe as the 180/185 is it possible to add the 3rd passenger window to the cabin as they did on the later year 180's and 185's?

If it is possible, why do it? Seems like a monumental waste of money for just about no benefit.

Re: 182 3rd Passenger Window?

The '56 182 is not the same as a late model 180 / 185, it is the same as an early 2 window 180.
Having said that, there have been early 180,s converted to the 3 window configuration, so in theory it would be possible. I doubt there is any way to legally do this in today's FAA... There is a monumental amount of work involved, and it would be more cost effective to purchase a 3 window airframe, even if you already have the 2 window ship...

Take care, Rob

Well if they can do it with a 175 TD you should be able to do it with a 182.

My friend flew this one up from Oregon for the guy who bought it, I have no idea how they did it or whether or not its legal.

In the early 60s cessna made a 182 with the 3rd window in it.

I bought my '56 C180 with the third window already in it. Don't recall what, if any, paperwork was in the logs for it. It was just "there."

The 1960 and 61 182s have the three side window airframe, just like the 185. The "benefit" is not just the extra glass, but a bit more headroom in the rear seats, if that is what you are after.
