1966 CE-182 Elevator
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
So my friends have one. I’m not super knowledgeable about them, I flew a 182 a little bit in 1995. That was it. This one requires more force to operate the elevator than any other Cessna or Piper I’ve ever flown including twins. It’s almost like you need feet on the panel to pull the handles when it’s static on the ground. We lubed the controls forward of the panel, which did offer some relief. I don’t think anything has lubed since ‘66 when it rolled off the line. So I’m sure that will also help. But are we missing something? The current I/A has gone into the maintenance manual and checked everything. Seems to be put together correctly. Is this the nature of the beast or are we missing something big? The owner has had it about 10 years now and is obviously quite oblivious considering the maintenance it’s been receiving. However he has stated that it’s always been real heavy on the elevator.

You may have stuck pulleys in the aft fuselage I have not worked on this model but I think the elevators hinge points have bushings which in other aircraft I have seen stuck. Have seen all the above over the years. Maybe someone experienced with this model will offer better advice.

Yes I agree, check the bushings in the elevator hinge points.

My 1967 model K has two fairly stout elevator down springs mounted inside the aft bulkhead on each side of the elevator bell crank, making the elevator very heavy as described. If not trimmed properly for takeoff it could be a handful.
