1979 C-185, Why are my gas caps reverse threaded?

Hi All-

I've owned N185BS since 2009. She's a bit special. Officially a 1973, owned by Cessna as test bed for any and all attachments and then re-manufactured in 1979 to 1979 specs.

She's had a long history, US, then worked on floats in Canada, re-imported, wrecked at Mexican Mountain, then rebuilt open checkbook by Beegles in Greeley before coming into my care.

Its got wet wing tanks, 88 total gallons, 84 useable, with 2 gas caps. They are righty loosy/ lefty tighty.

Any ideas? Never gotten a solid explanation. And don't tell me wit was for Australian export.

Love it if anyone can solve the mystery.

Brad

Any chance your 185 was that alison turbine Cessna played with, perhaos it was to keep crew from dumping blue gas in it? Just spitballing…

Thanks for jumping in!

Have I really stymied the whole collective BCP community?

No, no chance it had an allison turbine, traditional powerplant its whole life, 520 and now a 550.

I think it had to leave the cessna factory with that cap situation.

Anyone else have an idea?

But maybe.... while it was factory owned? I might look at the logs I have just to make sure that wasn't the case.....

New one to me, can't say as I've seen that.
I *have* seen some line personnel that appear to be reverse threaded, and I might even resemble that at times. Perhaps easier to operate for us yahoos.
