2012 OSH Airventure NOTAM is up now!

For anyone going to OSH this year, or for those of you who would like to peruse the approach procedures, even if you can't go, here's the link to the 2012 NOTAM: http://www.airventure.org/flying/2012_notam.pdf. As always there are some changes, so last year's NOTAM won't work.

For anyone desiring to go, it is NOT a difficult flight in or out. It does require being semi-alert---no, really alert---and it's important to practice slow flight so that you can maintain 90 knots and to practice spot landings, because you'll be expected to land on a spot! Not the one that happens to be under your tires when you touch down, but the spot that the Tower tells you to land on.

It is truly the greatest aviation show around.

Well, yeah, but a lot of folks only go 90 knots when they're getting ready to land. They're the ones who need to learn to fly at 90 knots for quite some distance and still maintain the proper altitude and not chop into the guy in front, etc.

The last couple of years I've camped at the Vintage Aircraft Camping area. 2 years ago, it was because the North 40 was too soggy and was closed, but last year it was just because I wanted to. Either place is great, though the new amenities at the North 40 are supposed to be pretty nice--flushing potties, etc. There are unfortunately a few A-holes amongst pilots, but for the most part it's pretty congenial wherever you choose to camp. I have had really good "neighbors" almost every year, and tolerable neighbors on the off years--nobody I'd want to shoot.

I've attended every year since 1997. Mostly camping, a couple times lucked out with friends in a house share.. Last year took my Wilga and parked North40 because I wanted to camp under the wing. This year I lucked out with a room at the Super8 so I'm parking it in the warbird area.

I've really enjoyed the people I meet at AirVenture. It's a reunion of sorts!

Cory.
