Sat through Mr. Wien's talk on Sunday, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm two thirds through the book already, and am facinated. What an incredible career.

I'd return to this show in a heartbeat. It's definitely on my list for next year. I'll get more out of it next year by knowing my way around. I'll stay at the Millenium, and won't miss Greg's BBQ if there's another invitation. Shame that I didn't meet some of you.

Sadly wasn't able to make it. But about 95% positive I watched the two 170s flying over the bluffs from homer. One with big tires one with smaller tires.

Boeing YL-15. If I remember correctly it was in competition with Cessna and the Bird Dog for Vietnam era observation platform. I grew up seeing this airplane on the shore of lake Spenard right by the Lakefront Hotel for years. There were 2 of them there and a Grumman G-21 (Goose). The Goose has been beautifully restored. It was great seeing the YL-15 all restored, very cool indeed.

This is all from the top of the noggin memory, I may have some facts incorrect but I think I have it right.

Nope, you're right. One of those YL-15s belonged to and was somewhat modified by Jerry (Jared) Lawhorne, who was our Chief of Maintenance. The Goose belonged to Norm Brunquist, who also worked for our maintenance outfit. Norm bought it surplus from the government, and towed it down the lake to his property there, winched it up on the beach and parked it, where it stayed for many decades, until Norm passed away. He had lots of offers to buy it. It allegedly is one of the lowest time Gooses in the world.

I've seen pics of that Boeing YL15 (aka L15 Scout) before, guess my CRS is kicking in.
Googled it up: 125hp Lycoming, 269 sq ft wing, full length flaps, spoilers for roll control.
People talk about Pacers being squirrelly because they're close-coupled, but just look at the tailwheel placement on that YL15!

FWIW back in the mid-1950's, a guy named Jerry Lawhorn built up an experimental he called the Kee Bird.
190hp Lycoming O435, c/s prop, YL-15 wings, big tires, all on a Cubbish-looking fuselage.

Man that thing is short!
Reminds me of Tailwheel Tom Anderson's (The Landing Gear Works) fuselage mockup for showcasing his titanium gear legs & 500x5 t/w assembly-- about three feet long, with a stinger at one end and a set of gearboxes at the other. He was most likely at the show with it.
