2018 KAWO Fly-In July 6-8,2018

Hello PNW area pilots,

Hope lots of you help keeping GA alive and make it to the KAWO flyin. It’s really easy and uncomplicated to fly-in. Just familiarize yourself with the NOTAM and directions. http://www.arlingtonflyin.org

And for us Maule drivers:

Tom D., fellow Maule pilot, got the Maule drivers amongst us, who are flying into KAWO to camp under the wing (or just spend the day), a designated MAULE parking area. Print the MAULE sign http://www.arlingtonflyin.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/ACFT_PARKSIGN_2018_MAULE.pdfand put it onto your dashboard and marshallers will guide you to the Maule area. Kudos to Tom for that.

Hope lots show up and park there to show some presence.
Christine

Not flying a Maule, but I'll be there again in my square-tailed C-172. If you've never been there, don't be afraid of the traffic and NOTAM, it really is a pretty straight forward procedure. Great way to spend a weekend looking at airplanes, talking about airplanes, etc. Bring good walking shoes and sunscreen, and have fun.

IMHO they don't really need the whole Green Valley arrival procedure any more,
attendance is way way down since the glory days of the 90's and early 2000's.
FWIW you can avoid that whole Chinese fire drill if you arrive early--
you can fly the standard LH pattern for 34 / RH pattern for 16 and make reports on the CTAF (now 122.72 BTW),
the Green Valley thing & freq's described in the NOTAM don't start until the control tower opens.

I used to go to the AFI every year, but I've only gone a couple times in the last 6 or so years,
it just isn't what it used to be.
Fewer and fewer airplanes turning out, and I don't really like being greeted by the welcome wagon (with their hands out for the admission fees) before I even get the airplane shut down.

IMHO a much more enjoyable fly-in is taking place the following weekend, July 13-15, at 3W5 Concrete WA.
Friday - sunday, camping encouraged, pancake feed put on by the local fire dept saturday morning.
Oh yeah, lots of "welcome to Concrete" from everyone but no hands out demanding money.

Cnocrete is a nice one, do you think the museum closure will affect future fly ins there?
