2nd Annual Red Hills Fly-in - Memorial Day weekend

Those who went last year had a lot of fun. Jack and Myrna loved meeting new pilots and seeing airplanes on their strip so they asked us to do it again this year. This is a very low-key fly-in. Mostly just to camp and talk and pet Jack's dogs. There may be a few flyouts to local strips and flying "the Death Star trench" but mostly just kicking back and relaxing.

First things first: Liability. Jack will not permit you to land without having first signed the liability waiver. It can be found here:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ZlPRJG ... =send_form

You may sign it digitally or print it out and bring it with you.

Rich Finkle also created an outstanding informational video on flying into the Red Hills strip. I highly encourage anyone flying into Red Hills to watch it. It's also linked on the liability waiver.

We can arrive as early as Friday evening. Most folks will be arriving on Saturday. Plan to bring some potluck food for Saturday night. Bring your own meat and something else to share with everyone.

We had talked about flying out to Columbia or some other place for Sunday breakfast but Myrna usually insists on cooking breakfast. We had some great pancakes last time.

Given events at past fly-ins I just want to remind everyone that attends that Jack and Myrna are inviting us into their home. Please fly responsibly. Hot doggers will be asked to leave.

So anyway there it is. If you're looking for a nice low-key camping trip to start off this year's flying season this might just be for you.

I'll be there. Possibly with one or two flying buddys.

You're never too old to learn something stupid.

Re: 2nd Annual Red Hills Fly-in - Memorial Day weekend

I plan to come. I will support the portapotties, too. :P

I filled out the waiver last year. Do I need to to submit again this year?

Looking forward to it!

Re: 2nd Annual Red Hills Fly-in - Memorial Day weekend

I have guests that weekend and Saturday night plans back at Tahoe, but I plan to fly in Saturday AM and spend most of the day. Let me know if I can bring anything besides the aforementioned food/beverage, or if I can help support this otherwise.

I look forward to putting a few more faces to BCP names!

If you've filled out the waiver then you're good. Only need to do it once. And help with the outhouse is appreciated.

And folks are welcome to come and go as they want. As long as the paperwork's been done.

Re: 2nd Annual Red Hills Fly-in - Memorial Day weekend

Julie and I had a great time last year and are looking forward to seeing everyone this year.
I believe a few other people are bringing their wives this year so I just wanted to put it out there that it is female friendly. I can't speak for the hosts but last year Myrna was very gracious to insist that my wife Julie had access to the indoor plumbing, (of course all the gentleman were just fine with the porta potty).
We will definitely bring potluck items, porta potty donation and I expect some of Julie's wine.

Excellent Doug! I'm not a wine drinker but Julie's wine was wonderful! I can't wait to taste this year's sample. My wife will be there this year, I hope! Even if she drives up. :D

Re: 2nd Annual Red Hills Fly-in - Memorial Day weekend

Well this makes the second unsuccessful attempt to make this flyin, memorial weekend is booked every year for me, family demands it.
Sure hope to see you all at another event later in year. Heading to mc call in June to get some needed experience.
Thanks for putting this one on.

Re: 2nd Annual Red Hills Fly-in - Memorial Day weekend

You make me miss my home, O22, so much it ,makes my heart ache.

I lived there many years, just about on the field off the south side of Two-Niner.

I don't remember a Red Hills Fly In when I lived there so I guess I missed out.

If you drop by my home field say hi to Chris and the guys at Springfield Flying Service.

I do love the great Pacific Northwest, but I am a Kalifornian living in exile. :(

You didn't miss anything Doc. They never had fly-ins before. I just sort of helped myself to their ranch and runway. So if you hung out at Columbia did you know Jim Hembree (sp?) He used to fly down to Oakdale to work at Sierra Aviation. Man that guy was a good stick. Flew a yellow PA-11.

They do have a BBQ there. If you have a small one you can bring as a backup it may not hurt. Just in case they are out of propane or something.

Looking forward to seeing you again Dan. The question has come up on what to bring for the Potluck. Main, side, or desert? I am driving in so if anyone needs anything brought in from the local grocery store let me know!! Planning a lunch time arrival on Saturday with my family.

Re: 2nd Annual Red Hills Fly-in - Memorial Day weekend

Well we got another fun Red Hills campout in the can. Jack and Myrna were once again the best hosts anyone could hope for. Jack just loved seeing all the airplanes parked on his strip. We also made sure he got rides in the airplanes this time. We took him along on our Sunday morning sortee. Pictures out to start coming in pretty soon so watch for that. In attendence were:

Joey and family (AvidFlyer)
Mr. and Mrs. Blackwater
Tom (ChampFlyer) and his brother John
Dan (Mr Steel) and Chris (?)
Chris R.
Scott (svanarts)
Rich (rfinkle)
Bob (Hawk) and Sadie
Rob
Renee (FlyGirl) from a Rans forum I belong to.

Thanks everyone for coming! We had a great time and Jack and Myrna can't wait to have everyone back any time.

Re: 2nd Annual Red Hills Fly-in - Memorial Day weekend

I had a great time meeting new friends, flying the trench Sunday morning--- but I had to leave the Maule in Montague Ca. After stoping for fuel the mag check was not good, upon further investagation it turns out to bad a bad plug wire, so called a friend to pick Chris and I up and flew home with the friend. The plan is I will order parts next week fly down and fix it next weekend. I hope!
