Re: 337 for goodyear 26" tires using 3 bolt wheels

Howdy, awhile back there were some discussions regarding field approval for 26" Goodyears on C180's. In that discussion, a number of pilots volunteered to make their 337's available. I am interested in putting the 26's on my 1955 C180 (which I purchased this last spring) and was wondering if a library of such was developed or of I could get copies of existing 337s. Any help would be greatly appreciated - Paul

I saw your comment in the knowledge base. No one ever sent me their 337s.

Just a reminder, email me anything you'd like posted for others' benefit. zane[at]backcountrypilot.org

Finished my field approval and mounted the GY 26 on my 1959 180 about 4 months ago. Let me know where you want me to send the paper work.

Loving the tires so far.

Zane I suggest a place or library to store 337's for future reference like the 180/185 club does =D> I've got one for stall fences where can I send it?

I too would be interested in the Goodyear 337 and the one for the stall fences. :D

Not true, Zane, I emailed you some stuff for your 337 library on Oct 3.
Which you acknowledged.

So you did. Thanks for the reminder. You were the only one.

As you can imagine, my attention is thinly spread. Congratulations on busting me.

For the Skywagon, I've added a new table for field approval 337s under the "landing gear / tires / brakes" section, below the STCs table.

If you have something to submit, find the aircraft page if it exists, and make a comment. Attach the file to the comment, then I will add an entry in the modifications section. Please be very descriptive as to what it is.

Looks like only 2 of the 5 field approval 337 files for 26" GY's on a C180 that I sent you got onto that page.
Is there a problem with the other 3?

I posted the 2 that were native documents. The others were poor quality scans.

Re: 337 for goodyear 26" tires using 3 bolt wheels

Zane thank you for creating this data base. The 337 for N4679U is of limited value as it lacks the FAA statement and inspector signature in block #3 and the return to service signature in block #7. As it stands it is not approved and would not be considered accepted data. The required document is the one referenced on the back as the 337 for N55180. I am not certain but believe that the FAA will only except the original data (N55180) as accepted data for follow on field approval request.

What exactly is of value with 337s for field approvals? Is it the fact that an approval was granted, thereby giving you something to reference (N12345 did it, look it up, Feds!) or is it having the document itself to attach as reference to your bundle when submitting the 337?

Hotrod emailed me 5 in total. Some were poor quality scans that you wouldn't be able to print out with much legibility. The others were PDFs, which print much better, but you say only one is of any value. Would the poor quality JPGs be of value just for the proof that the approval was granted? Can you find the serial number on that 337 and just include it by reference in yours?

Re: 337 for goodyear 26" tires using 3 bolt wheels

The problem is that the 337 for N4679U was never approved. It is my opinion that the FAA will not look up the 337 for N55180 as it is the submitting A&P who is responsible for supplying the "acceptable" data so that a FAA inspector can determine if the data meets the requirements to become "approved" data which then can be used to modify the aircraft by any A&P. The inspector will then stamp and sign block #3. An A&P will perform the work. An IA will then inspect the modification and determine if it was performed in accordance with the data, and if it does approve the return to service in block #7.. The A&P and IA may be the same person.

I would like to hear what other more experienced mechanics have to say on how this follow on approval works.

And to top that off, whomever filled out that 337 used the wrong N#. N55180 belongs to a Stearman.
