You all getting any of the smoke that NE corner of the state is getting? Ive been getting fed a bunch of videos of the approach into this on youtube and IG this week. Id love to come down sometime. Whats the story on the gun range that I have seen online?

Smoked ! 45 is a cool spot for certain though. Idaho 511 road cam site has tons of webcams that help really well to check on smoke conditions .

I’m not there now but my buddy, who also mows, was driven away by smoke around the 20th.
Give Bob Hendricks a call for current status. 541-212-6582.
He likes a call before landing as the sprinklers get set on the runway for 24 hour periods.

They also have a runway cam that may shed light on current conditions.

Gun range is a close distance range. Tables set up. It’s pretty sweet for what it is.
Things are pretty dry off the river so if it’s used they want eyes on it for a period of time to be sure nothing has ignited.

Correct, not on chart. One SHOULD be a member of JRBAF and would get notified of everything happening there. This is not a promotion of JRBAF, just a heads up if 45 Ranch interests you.

I have an Idaho Aviation Dept (?) chart from a number of years ago that shows the 45 Ranch,
the only one I've ever seen that does so.
As I recall, when JRBAF first bought the place,
they said that they said anyone could land, but you had to be a member to overnight there.
I bought a membership for that reason, but haven't made it out there yet.
I always thought it was strange that they didn't have the strip charted, or as far as I know even FAA-registered--
maybe to keep the riff-raff out?
So it might be hard to some folks to find, even though they have posted maps showing approx locations,
as well as lat & long for both the 45 Ranch & the nearby Star Valley Ranch.
Also, since it's not an FAA-registered airport,
landing there might be considered "off airport operations" by your insurance carrier if you have a mishap there.

I hadnt thought about the insurance portion of it. I believe my insurance is for any charted runway right now..... Thanks for that catch. The exact coordinates for both JRB properties are listed on their website after clicking through a disclaimer on their website.

As a note, if the winds get too crazy down in the valley, there are 2 runways up top to the east that should allow you land into the wind. If you can get a phone call out, Bob can pick you up in SXS and get you down to the rivers edge to camp with the mosquitos. Oh, did I mention the mosquitos? Come prepared.

Do you enjoy fishing? The small mouth bass fishing there is absolutely ridiculous. You will catch more fish than you can dream up. Don’t bother with waders. Some water sandals and shorts as water is about 80 degrees. Water is crystal clear with grass seams everywhere.

Every time I hear something about the 45 Ranch, I'm reminded of Claude Dallas.
He was a "modern mountain man", convicted of murdering two game wardens at his camp located on the 45 ranch range in 1981.
