-58˚ F in Chicken, AK this morning

I get pretty whiny when it drops below 20˚ F here. I think I'm too much of a wuss for Alaska.

Probably a good day for satellite TV and a big coffee pot.

100 degrees warmer here in Texas.

Think I like it better here. At least today.

On my bucket list:
Go outside at that kind of temp, and take a leak, and listen to it snap freeze before it hits the snow....

That is about all I think that low a temperature is good for.

I hear it sorta "snaps" when it freezes-you guys that have BTDT-is that right?

I know. Deep philosophical discussion..... #-o

I'm thinkin' that would be a pretty tall guy. Take a styro cup of coffee and throw it into the air though and you'll get the effect.

Re: -58˚ F in Chicken, AK this morning

I loved Alaska, but the month I spent in Fairbanks one week when the temp never got warmer than about -56F would be hard to take now. It helped to be only 27 years old. Now +15F is plenty too cold.

Well, maybe a good arch would suffice?
Who up there in very deep freeze land is willing to dedicate a piss to a scientific experiment?

Somebody is bound to be wondering.....
I was a voracious reader as a youngster, and I read a lot of books on the early frontier northland of both Alaska and Canada. That scenario was described, and I believed it, and that image is one of many that stuck with me.

Anyhow, if it is not true-it fits in well with a LOT of other things I "learned" as a kid that were bogus!

The Internet is absolutely great at un-learning stuff I "knew" for decades! #-o

If you were hoping for a vid, prepare to be disappointed!
I remember reading Jack London, I think it was, where he says spit cracks upon hitting the ground at -50, and cracks in the air at -75. I was disappointed at -60 to find that the former isn't true. Haven't been in -75 to try the latter! And I can't say I ever recall piss doing anything other than melting a hole in the snow.
Cheers,
-DP

Well, I guess that is an experience I can scratch off my bucket list as "Bullshit"!

A few more of those and it'll be down to a manageable size.

Thanks for the feedback. No video needed/wanted.

Re: -58˚ F in Chicken, AK this morning

Law enforcement told me a very high percentage of male drownings in AK were found with fly unzipped. They really need to drink less or learn to swim.
Pissing outdoors did seem common also. But the sound it made was muffled either by your parka or your buddy barfing. I do know your nose hairs would freeze upon inhalation. And that fox fur is not worth a crap for a parka, but wolf or wolverine is fine. Winter trivia. Back to Netflix now.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: -58˚ F in Chicken, AK this morning

My hat's off to those hardy souls who can survive in those kinds of temperatures. My old T-craft lives in Fairbanks now, but she's warm and protected in a nice airpark hangar :)

+80, warm breeze, and strong sunshine here in LA for my b'day today. Lots to be thankful for.

I guess it's safe to say they won't be having a New Years polar bear swim.

Uhhh... they have a different kind of "bears" here. You may not want to go swimming with them

EB / 701, thanks. How soon till you are flying? I hope we get to cross paths at a fly-in or something, the Zenair people came down to SoCal Kernville airport a couple years ago to show off the 750. The Kernville airport mgr had a 701.at one time.

+40 is plenty cold for me these days. I'm astonished at how quickly I've gotten wimpy.

Minus 58F, probably going to need a pre heat on the engine. I'm a candy ass when I get hit with a 10 below wind getting to and from the airplane in anchorage.
