7.00 Mains on a 182

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

When I purchased and installed the Landis kit on my 58 182 about 2-3 years ago, the STC requires an 850 on the nose and at least 850's on the mains.

You say the Landis kit you purchased, the STC requires 800's on all three points :-k

The Landes STC only requires the same size tires on all three wheels, not 8.50's on all three wheels. When I first got the Landes nose fork I ran 8:00's all around and now, with the field approval, am running an 8:00 on the nose and 8:50's on the mains.

I'm not trying to cause an argument here and I'm not sure where your getting your information. But, BEFORE any field approvals, the Landis kit (http://airglas.com/nose_fork/index.html) that I purchased directly from http://airglas.com/ does require an 850 on the nose and at least 850's on the mains. That's what the STC clearly say's. You can change the mains to Bigger size tires that are listed in the STC with no field approvals (I believe). Just might have to do a W&B adjustment.

Is it possible your talking about a different "Landes" kit?

Read the "Limitations and Conditions" section of STC No. SA02069AK, and you will see 8:50'sare not required. The only requirement is that the nose and main wheel tires must be the same size.

But, I'm still going to look at my paperwork when I get home. I'm still going to say with 99.9% confidence that the paperwork that came with MY kit say different :-k

No apology necessary as we're all just trying to understand this stuff and share information. I installed my Airglas nose fork about three years ago and would be surprised if your paperwork differs from mine, but I guess stranger things have happened. Let me know what you find.

Did you guys have to work on the axle tube to get it to fit the bearings? Mine was .002 over and we had a hell of a time getting it to fit up. I told Airglas about it, they assured me I was the only one.

My Landes STC requires the same size tires all the way around. Up to 8.50x6. Sorry that I wasnt clear in my original email.

The STC Limitations section reads:
Airplanes incorporating this design may be equipped with 6.00-6, 7.00-6, 8.00-6, or Goodyear 8.50-6 tires on the nose wheel and main wheels. The nose tire must be the same size as the main tires in all installations. (Dated 6/26/06)

I have seen an earlier STC from Landes that allowed a smaller tire on the nose wheel, but mine does not.

As stated earlier, if you want to go to a smaller nose tire, I have an FAA field approval for the Airglas STC with an 8.00 on the nose and 8.50's on the mains, with the only condition being the steel axles.

I bit the bullet to be totally legal and went with the Landis Conversion. I have 8.50's on the mains and got a field approval from the Helena, Montana FSDO to run an 8.00 on the nose. THE STC required cutting 3" off the fork. The STC is working great and wonderful for all the back country strips. No regrets.............be ready for next season.....

That's exactly the setup I have. I gave it a nice workout Idaho this last summer and am pleased with the results.

Well, you weren't the only one, however, I didn't call them and tell them about it either. Probably should have though.

We used boiling water on the new Cessna fitting and dry ice and alcohol to freeze the nose strut, nearly had it seated but was slightly off center for the bolt.

Had to take it to the machine shop at a Naval Air Station to have it "fitted". They said it was .003 over.

Anyway, so far so good. Running 8:00x6's all the way around and haven't lost more than a couple of knots, at the most. Still truing out in the low 130's, amazing really.
