Man, that's awesome.
I hope I'm still flying at that age. That's if fuel isn't a bazillion bucks a gallon.

I'm hoping I'm still alive at that age! Good story. I had the idea somehow that the tiger moth was an older design. Looks like fun.

Does it count if some mornings I FEEL as though I was 89?

Ha ha, as macho as we all like to think being a pilot makes us, it really is pretty undemanding phsically, even girls can do it! Old men also. Maybe even old women. :o

Another huge good thing about flying, with just enough luck to beat the medical you can do it as a codger. I hear the hang glider pilot ranks are shrinking as the physical demands are much higher, and the pilots are aging, a good buddy of mine I used to fly HG with still does it, but it kicks his ass.....I'm glad I transitioned out of it and now can look forward to many more years of codger flying.

That reminds me, I'll be flying with 93 year old ex Corsair/Cub/50 yr crop duster career pilot Jim shortly, in his restored '48 170. He isn't current since getting one armed detached (tractor PTO ) and sewed back on, mostly. He is REALLY looking forward to a little flight time in it before it goes on the market, it will be interesting to see how he does.

Re: 89 still flying

If the definition of flying as a codger is based upon qualifying for Medicare, then I'm well into codgerdom. I certainly hope to continue flying for a long time, although I think a lot of that will be based on trying to maintain my health, which for you young whippersnapper types, let me say it becomes harder and harder--I too get up some mornings wondering if I'm not already 89! :) So don't take your good health for granted--things like high blood pressure, smoking, prostate health--all of these and more can really interfere with flying.
