Hello. Would you please post for everyone on this site that the runway at Caveman Ranch is closed and not to be used. There have been large X's painted on the runway in hopes that would deter anyone from landing, but planes continue to land.

Caveman is raising the berm between the river and runway to reduce the chance of flooding in the spring. They will reopen when completed.

I heard some rumors (two sources, actually) that the fly-in is in jeopardy. One blamed family squabbles, no mention of runway repairs, the other had no reason. I'm heading to Moab that week anyway, so I'll be there in any case, but I'd still like to know if the fly-in at Caveman Ranch is ON or OFF.

Hey, I have an idea. I don't think I'm the only one who planned a vacation around a Caveman Ranch fly-in, there are usually a bunch of people from different places. (Okay, I do it the chicken way and stay in a motel in Moab, but I'm still hanging around and flying the back-country airstrips around there.) Maybe we can still show up, just not at Caveman. Pick a few airstrips and say, "Yeah, we'll meet in and around Mineral Canyon, Hidden Splendor, Happy Canyon, wherever for 2014 May 16-18." Make it an unoffical fly-in.
