It’s been a few years and I’ve not kept up on this…so just to clarify. No ADS-B requirement? Online I see that the Navcanada site says the mandates will start being implemented later this year for high altitude, and eventually getting down to our level in 2026. We are thinking about another trip in early June so I’m starting to get my ducks in a row.

I will be surprised if they get their ducks in a row to actually implement the requirement by 2026. And when they do they will require diversity ADS-B. It’s a real bugger and big extra cost for us in Canada…

I'm curious if it indicates whether Canada will have "rule airspace" (class A/B/C) like the US,
or will ADS-B be required everywhere?

From the Navcanada site, it looks to be everywhere.

A phased approach

The ADS-B Out Performance Requirements Mandate will be implemented through a phased approach, beginning with high altitude airspace:

Starting August 10, 2023, aircraft flying in Class A airspace will need to be suitably equipped.

Starting May 16, 2024, aircraft flying in Class B airspace will need to be suitably equipped.

Implementation of ADS-B Out in additional classes of airspace (Class C, D and E) will occur no sooner than 2026. The approach and timing for implementation in these classes will be determined pending further assessment and stakeholder engagement.

Thanks, Ted! My favorite part of the article:

"ADS-B becomes necessary for passing through Class B airspace commencing May 16, 2024.There are no Class B airports in Canada."
