Adventures With A Desert Bush Pilot

In the 1950’s an adventurous couple flew around and landed pretty much anywhere in their...Ercoupe!
Author Sylvia Winslow recounts her and husband Slim’s desert rat expeditions with nice descriptions, photos and artwork. They were based at Ridgecrest Municipal Airport and flew to places now in military restricted areas. They frequented since-closed southern Sierra Nevada airports, notably Monache and Templeton Meadows at 8500' where they caught, cooked and dined on Golden Trout! They rock hounded many places in Death Valley. Interesting read that might have you Ercoupe shopping!

Soft bound glossy medium format. The Maturango Press Museum of Ridgecrest published it in 1984. They might have copies. My pal Dave found the one I referenced at the Chevron station in Shoshone California (short walk from airport). They had a few more copies on the shelf.
I would be interested to know if anyone has first-hand knowledge of this couple. The Ercoupe is still on the registry in L.A. area.

That looks really interesting. I love how the Ercoupe looks like a Jetsons toy. Pretty capable little airplane.

Yes, Sylvia Winslow's book is an absolute treasure for the Mojave area bush pilot. A great inspiration to much of the flying I have done out here. And I have retraced many of their steps from that book in the past 4 years. Mostly via Cessna 120. And re-discovered a few lost places along the way.

My $1340.00 Flagstaff bank repossession Ercoupe still had six months on the annual. I had to stop every 1.5 hours to put in two quarts of oil, however. I made lots of off field stops in the desert around there and Gallup. Only broke a push pull tube to the nose gear once. Hit a prairie dog hole.
