It doesn't NEED to be STC'd to instal. You could do it on a field approval.
Since it ties into the pitot static system, I dont think it can be a simple log book entry.

Ya, momentarily blank on the pitot/static tie in... don't think they'd be fond of that...

They have a nice declutter feature to make it 'just a horizon' which is nice. They expect it to be available for Experimental 'later this year' with the STC'd version available 'later next year'.... That makes it too far out for me to worry about. It kind of convinced me to just get a G5.

Garmin makes great products for sure. And sometimes it makes sense to stay loyal to a brand becuase of the functionality readily built in between say a G5 and an existing G696 in the panel, and whatever other Garmin accessories you already have.. But brand alliance/preferences aside. It's truely great to see a product that has such a quality look about it, that can fit 'the' look/theme of the rest of your panel, as others have already mentioned. Not to bash on other brands that may work well, that I've never used. But, even if I was building an experimental aircraft where I could use anything, I wouldn't choose to use brands like Gemini, or MGL largely because of the aesthetics and aura about them.

For a listed MSRP of $1,500.00'sh for the certified and non-certified versions (not $2,100 vs $1,200 respectively, for a G5) of the AV-30, I gladly welcome the competion and hope AeroV can check all the boxes and get a new product on the shelf sooner that later.

Cheers!
