Air Force 2 Mishap

Well, Jumpin Joe Biden came here to Flagstaff today to go on to Sedona. Flew in in his 757, well perhaps he didn't do the flying, maybe he could have done better. Well the 757 landed long, about A5 taxiway went into max reverse and FODed the engines. Now a whole crowd of Air Force is coming in in C130's, C17's to bring engines, dollys, tooling a new pilot and a bunch of maintenance crews to swap the engines so Joe can get home on Sunday. Perhaps the VIP transport boys need to brush up on short high altitude runways. Apparently they are hiring, kind of went two short today.

I guess this sequestration didn't stop the support crew from bringing in 12 million dollars worth of spare motors and the expense of a field R&R...... But hey... It is just tax dollars. [-X

Not sure I would call KFLG that short ... anyway.
He just landed on the wrong part of it. Glad to be a taxpayer today... just to help good ol' Joe out getting home.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

Re: Air Force 2 Mishap

Touchdown TAS of a 757 at about 9000' DA ain't slow. With about 4,000' of pavement remaining and another 1000' of level ground until you fall off the drop into trees and onto I-17 it could've been much worse. Either way, what a waste of $$$.

Couldn't get the image to display, but here's a link the the Arizona Daily Sun's image of AF2's touchdown.

Re: Air Force 2 Mishap

Poor planning? I dunno. But, don't they have different type aircraft to meet specific missions? If Joes final distinction was Sedona. Then why not use a G5 or 4?

I'm all for reasonable Executive travel. But let's use the right tools for the specific missions!

Lucky nothing bad happened to Joe Biden. That would have been a dark day in history.

Re: Air Force 2 Mishap

Well, Joe left on with a pair of G5's today. The 757 stays to be fixed. Folks had the cowls open and scratching their heads for the last two days. It may become a permanent museum exhibit here. I guess the Speaker of the House wouldn't lend Joe his 757, so he had to slink out in a mere G5 and a another G5 for his entourage. Interestingly the G5's call sign was Air Force 2.
