Alaska Bushwheel gas "can"

I got one, it just came in yesterday. Today I filled it for the first time and was pleased to see the 5.2 gallon capacity was conservative, and it was EASY to fill. I thought it might be too tippy or sloppy while filling, but it was great to handle, best of all I threw it in the back of the Toyota and didn't have to worry about it tipping over, no fuel smell whatsoever. Another thing they deal that is worth the high price, dammit!

Have you tried it on top of your wing yet? Is there a valve so you can get it up and ready before the fuel starts?

I just got 2 of them. No valve. Good nozzle. With out the nozzle 1.5" opening. The jug collapses as it empties so it should dump fast. My plan is to attach a longer clear hose to the nozzle with a 1/4 turn valve and a 90* end. With this setup I should be able to lay it on the wing and open the valve in a controlled manner.

Cheers...Rob

I would suggest putting one end of the bonding wire in your mouth (for good continuity), 3 raps around the neck of the jug and the other end in your fuel tank. :D
They look awesome!

No you're wrong! You only need 2 wraps around the neck of the jug, beyond that the molecules become to rarefied and you'll end up with urine in the fuel. =D>

$75, ouch! I think I'm going to try this one for $10 and see if it works for gas.

Re: Alaska Bushwheel gas "can"

I'm surprised that it is not a common item sold at the local hardware store or pamida store. Nothing like taking the family car to go get some gas cans filled up for the snow mobiles in the middle of perfect snow fall and having a fuel spill in the carpeted trunk. #-o #-o #-o [-X .

Visiting my Parents in Michigan before heading to a wedding in Tennessee. I failed to secure the spout correctly and no caps with the jugs were to be found. So I said ok, Ill snugly put them here and take her easy on the road home. Well, for 500 miles it smelled like a oil refinery in the damn car and even with absorbent pad, baking Soda and pet carpet odor remover it took 3 months for the gas smell to really disappear. The wife was not happy to say the least.

$75, ouch!

See above.....

On edit let me explain.... We looked at the Turtle Pac and they are a great quality pac but the $500.00 price tag didn't sit well

Re: Alaska Bushwheel gas "can"

At 75 bucks the ABW fuel bags arn't cheap, but I also ordered 5 bottles of the pepper sauce they sell, and at 3 bucks a bottle it's a great bargain! I tried some out this morning: initially hot but it doesn't get hotter.....just a consistant "hotness", so it'd be tough to OD on it, unlike other bottled sauce that can blow your head off if you use just a little too much. For those of you that like your condiments on the hot side, and are always looking for something new, the ABW sauce is good stuff. So, I figured as long as they were shipping the hot sauce, I may as well get a fuel bag.

BTW I actually got it for all around fuel carrying, in other words for use like any other utility fuel jug. The fact that I'll use it (rarely, I already have 8 hrs + duration) in the airplane was only an added plus. The last 5 gallon plastic can I used pissed me off so bad I threw it away. It had a little plastic gasket that would come unlodged when you screwed the nozzle back on, sometimes, not all the time, and the only way to tell was to start pouring. I put up with it then figured life is too short, and gas too expensive, to put up with an aggravation like that, 75 bucks is a bargain for a fuel carrier that won't leak or tip over unless tied off. Taking up zero room when empty, and the hot sauce, made it a no brainer.

I love that hotsauce. I got some from Bill when we were down at Pierce's restoration seminar and I'm about out of the sauce. I'm going to have to get some more!

Re: Alaska Bushwheel gas "can"

I have the TurlePac and love it. Just be cautious hoisting and using it on top of the wing. It has to rest on top of my VGs, and the valve that I added to mine will put a hole in my fabric if I don't use something to cushion the wing. I use a square piece of camping pad and ensure I have something extra surrounding the valve.

Re: Alaska Bushwheel gas "can"

I've seen that advertised on motorcycle specialty websites for about twice the price. I think they've priced it pretty reasonably. I can't afford it but then I'm dirt poor.

The cheaper than dirt Swiss military bag is the way to go. In the float world they are proven and cheap. I bought six and will be using them in the bush this summer.
