Alice Rogoff tree topping with a 206

Anyone hear about this? Hard to believe the photo capture, but apparently it's valid?

I saw it yesterday, unbelievable screw up. The fact she flew the wreck to the ground and survived is incredible.

Some would call that a bird strike. The bird was still in the tree.

Talk about the perfectly timed shot.... wow!

Possibly the most expensive image you'll see all week, (looks like) a late model 206 with Ampibs - I would hate to think what that's going to cost them (or insurer) to replace.

That's about as close as you can get to killing yourself in a second or two, and not. She is really lucky that tree broke, and didn't spit her straight down onto the rocks.

More info on it here, plus a pic after "landing" and high tide. 2008 T206H, she's the wife of one of the richest men in America so this is a chump change deal.

That was my exact adjective when I saw the photo, followed by vulgarity. In fact, I still think it when I look at the photo.

I find it kind of neat that a woman in her shoes was flying a 206 on amphibs. Too bad about the wreck.

What an amazing image.

Glad to see that she got on the ground alive. Thank god for turbocharging and horsepower!

I prefer to do my tree work on the ground. Most expensive pruning job ever.

Alice is as tough as they come. Glad to see she was able to walk away from that. I hope to see her back in the air again soon!

Re: Alice Rogoff tree topping with a 206

I truly hope that the AK flying community does not point too many fingers at this pilot, and that they don't make fun of her, even if that was a stupid mistake, or rookie move. Aviation really needs all the "friends in high places" that it can get.

Yes, it means that some pilots wind up getting better treatment than others because of wealth or status, which runs completely contrary to every fiber of what aviation is supposed to be. That entire concept is offensive to me personally for several reasons.

But just how many small airplane or back country pilots do we have that are actually in a position to change laws, or fight city hall, move big pieces on the chess board, or lobby for aviation, etc? That is not a resource to be treated lightly.

I'm sorry to point it out, and I know some people will call my comments into question, but the truth is that even if she was 100% incompetent the aviation community should be embracing her because of the other wolves outside our door.

Agree, VERY cool picture, but...

On second, more thorough, study, might be a Photoshop compilation of two(+) pictures. Seems that the top of the tree from the center-fuselage top up is out of place?

I think because it is no longer connected to the rest of the tree.

I think the most amazing part is that someone captured this on a camera. The image looks pretty poor, like maybe it's a video screen capture. Perhaps that means there's a video soon to surface.

Did you all notice the eagle bailing out of the way? If the bird survived...holy cow.

It looks like other than hitting a barge earlier this summer, and taking off with a tow bar attached that whacked the prop she's incident free.

That's a lot like when I was a city judge, a young woman came before me charged with careless driving resulting in an accident. She pleaded guilty, and when I asked her if she had anything she wanted me to consider for sentencing, she told me that she was a good driver, and that her last accident was a good 8 months ago.

Looks to me like the left float and wing went straight into the (rotten) trunk.
