All Glass VFR Panel

Can anyone shed some light on the possibilities and/or options of upgrading an old VFR panel to all glass? I'm in a deep refurb and upgrade on the Maule and its panel time. Is it possible to get rid of ALL the old round gauges? Like an Aspen and a G5 or just 2 G5's? I'm being told I can do a G5 and keep the old airspeed and altimeter. But I'm curious what it would take to be all glass. But just simple VFR. Anybody know for sure? Seems everyone "thinks" we can do this or that but no confident answers so far. Thanks for any info.

Download the minimum equipment list from Maule; you'll be surprised what is not considered minimum. Build up from there and you'll be legal.

Re: All Glass VFR Panel

When I had my airplane in the avionics shop for the 430W and PS Engineering 6000B installation, there was a PA28 there that they'd just completed a full glass panel: G500, Garmin 750 and 650 or 2 750s (can't recall), Garmin transponder and audio panel, etc. Total was around $60 or $65,000, about twice what the airplane was worth. As the guy who built our house in Anchorage used to tell Wife 1 when she wanted this or that changed, "you can have anything you want--it just costs money."

I'd suggest visiting with a good avionics shop and get some different ideas. You may find that a "simple VFR" panel isn't all that simple, money wise, and that you'd be as well off to make it a basic IFR panel for similar money.

True that......

Thinking we might do a G5 and 2 1/4" airspeed and altimeter. To meet legal and still look modern and clean.

Re: All Glass VFR Panel

There's a BCP thread or two on electronic flight displays which included photos of some really good looking, clean panels.
I'm sure you can find something similar to what you have in mind.

Just did my cub. Garmin G5, Aera 660, G345 ADSB in out transponder, Garmin radio, Electronics International engine monitor ( round gauge) original airspeed and altimeter, digital clock, PS engineering ICS, ACK 406 elt, new control cables. G5 can only be backup airspeed and altitude. Only set me back 35 large for a partial glass panel

Send Dynon your aircraft info, they are working on certifying the Skyview HDX currently. I'm told $18k gets you a 10" screen, 2-axis autopilot, engine monitoring, and ADS-B in/out along with the generally awesome features of the HDX, as well as STC paperwork. I played with it at OSH, and it pretty instantly hit the brakes on my earlier plans. It does not integrate the radio or audio panel in the display, but just about everything else is there. You can add a 2nd display for a little over $4k if you want a backup.
