Alpha AoA calibration tips

Just recently installed the alpha falcon angle of attack unit.

I calibrated it per the instructions, which ask the pilot to determine the stall speed when the wing is clean.

I'm flying with a Robertson stole kid, so I believe I have a higher angle of attack at full flaps than I would without, and I am seeing seven to eight knots higher speed on final after configuring the system based on the instructions.

The instructions also mention that if we have a flap sensor to repeat the calibration of different flap settings, but I don't have one.

The big question: is there any reason why I shouldn't calibrate the system with full flap extension?

Obviously it can be difficult to fly level with 30° of flaps in. So is there another technique I could use?

I'm thinking of just programming the system with a clean wing, but based on my stall speed with full flaps.

Re: Alpha AoA calibration tips

I always calibrate mine full flaps.
Fly it at the minimum speed you can hold altitude it can be with high angle of attack does not has to be level (with power as needed and full flaps) press the set button.

Now do power off stalls and power on stalls.
You will see how many red bar lights are shown when you stall, if you did it correctly should be 3 or 4 red bars, that is going to be your stall indication, no matter the weight of the plane or outside temperature.
Then your Vx should be 2 yellow lights, Vy 4 yellow lights.

Hope this helps.

The Alpha AOA calibration instruction also says to use 1.2 Vs. This is way too fast for my C172. I intend to recalibrate with 1.1 Vs (clean wing). Has anyone else used 1.1 Vs, and what do you think of that?
