Alternate Source for Cessna "Scoop"?
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
Anybody know of an alternate source for the Cessna ventilation "scoops" that go on the bottom fuselage? PN 0422342 or S349. Cessnadirect (Yingling) wants $95, which is about 100X what they should cost.

Inside outlets or outside inlets?

It can be true, even if it didn't happen - Ken Keasey - mostly*
Man invented language so he could hide the truth from others - Tallyrand - sort of
Well, they are kind of outside to inside ... I think. Pictures:

They really look like plugs to access the inside of the plane.

Interesting. I've never saw those before. I'm with prop 26, to me it looks like one of the access plugs that's just broken. Why do you need/want to scoop air and all the dirt/moisture that comes with it up into the bottom of the plane?

My 54 180 still has some but not all. They make a better plug when bugs or ????? get in them. The opening is supposed to be to the rear thus pulling water out and not scooping it in. I like just the hole with them gone best. Can't believe the Cessna price!!!!!

Those are similar to what you can find on the bottom of the trailing edge
of fabric covered wings to "vacuum" water out of the wings in flight, or to
drain out while tied down.
Might be easier to glue on newer plastic ones. Use same glue as VGs
They "let" some water out if they are in front of a bulkhead on your 180.
At flight speeds the should act as a vacuum to remove moisture.
(fluids) like fuel leak!!!
May even have been added to keep exhaust [C0] from creeping up from
"openings" further back near tail-cone. WAS an early problem.
Can not tell exactly where they are from photos.
Which station? Forward of station-bulkhead??
Creeping closer

It is better to be late in this world, than early in the next.
It looks like there should be two for each bulkhead; one front and one behind, with the exception of the first bulkhead near the gearbox. I am missing two. The hole next to the scoop in the picture is one of my missing scoops.

"Seaplane grommets" are completely different from the photos in posts #3 & #5.
What diameter are those vents, and what year is your 180 that has them?
I checked my 53 model today, and it just has a single 1/4" hole on the centerline of the airplane immediately forward of each bulkhead.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
Mines a '58 calendar '59 model year (made in late Dec). My holes are about a 1/4" as well; the rivets you see adjacent are -4. I'll measure when I get home tonight. I wonder what the non-legacy Cessnas use?

The diameter of the mounting hole is 0.235 inches. I spoke with Skywagon city, they state they don't have any, and that the newer Cessna's just have the holes. Preferred Air Parts has them for $63 apiece. Looks like I'm on the way for a late model upgrade.
