Any good camping near the Burns airport if the Alvord doesn't look good?

RON Burns

It has been several years since the last time I was in Burns. I slept on the couch in the pilots lounge. I drove to town for dinner with the airport car, the keys were in the basket, I forget the exact routine I think I filled out a liability form and left some gas money. If you wanted, looked like a fellow could pitch a tent at the east tie down area, near a derelict Helio, if it's still there. I'll be heading out on the w/e for an elk hunting trip near La Grand so I won't be able to sample the chilli, or go hot springing, this time.[/url]

The is about a half acre of lawn that's been used before. Terminal builder is open 24-7. I didn't see the courtesy car there yesterday, or the van? However if you come in I'm sure we can find some ground transporttion. I had an old pickup to use, but smacked a deer with it a couple weeks ago. So I need parts there  Then there are several motels in town.

Nope! Mom has it. This was a 78 Ford 1/2 ton I bought at auction earlier this year. Just a good knock around rig. However seem to have a tough time finding parts.

Looking at the weather reports, I think I'll take Skylane's advice and do whatever it is people do when they're not flying. I think it involves surfing for porn... like a Pacer or Maule perched atop a rocky ridge.

If anyone makes it, post pictures.

Looking bleak for us in nor cal. Maybe this is too late in the year to plan this kind of stuff. Probably any flying I do for a while will be spur of the moment.

Works for me. Rain the last 2 days, and the wind is kicken'. Sheriffs office had to do a SAR mission Wednesday. Hunters snowed in on the west side of the Steens slope. Deputy said that white out conditions cut visabilty to nil. Snow deep enough to get two 4 wheel drive trucks stuck. They were retieved by a high track D-6 with climate controlled cab. Time of the year to stay home and fly Microsoft. Radio just reported 30 mph gusts. Around here, this time of years I stay close to the airport, because weather can go to heck in a hurry.

Figures!

Well Saturdays weather stunck! :(

The big Chili cookoff went well. Had to use 7 gallon buckets filled with water to tie down our gazebo. Windy! Made 10 gallons of kick a** chili and sold it all. Not even a spoon full left. The Burns Lions Club chili won "Peoples Choice" award. Apple pie was dang good but didn't win any award. However I made 2 of them and the one at home was gone in a day, the one in the contest was gone within 15 minutes. So it must have been a good pie.

Had scatterd snow showers with some good winds. :(

Sunday however was a great day and would have worked well for flying around the country. Alvord was decent, so I'm told from a local down there. I would have burned some 100LL but had to get Elk camp set up.

Fly smart. See ya, Bub

The weather is looking pretty good this weekend. I'm planning to give it a try again.

Portland looks pretty windy on Saturday but the east side reports are good, at least, for now. Sunday is looking great.

Did you come down? I saw some planes out and about on Saturday while I was in Hunting camp. The weather looked good to.

I did. I made quick mention of it in the "Where did you fly today category". I'm in the process of uploading a trip report with pictures. The pictures are uploaded.... somewhere... apparently not in my album...

I don't see your photos anywhere in the photo gallery going back as far as early october. Did you get any errors? Did you reach the step where you choose the album to put them in?

No errors but it didn't ask me to put it in an album. I'll try again tonight.

That's a key part of the process. If you don't choose an album and click OK, the photos with evaporate into the ether...
