Amphib gear selector

Hello,
I've been on here for a few months and can't say enough about how awesome a resource this place is for people like me just getting into aviation and owning a plane. Maybe someone could chime in with an answer on this one. I just completed building a 4-place bushplane and will be putting it on Clamar amphibs this spring. I have the amphibs, and will be installing the manual pump as well. My question is with regards to the gear up/ gear down selector arm that I will mount in the panel. Would anyone know where I should start looking for a salvaged one, or something else that would do the job. I just want to know if this would be the way to go rather that a locking two position switch.
Thanks in advance,
Cam

Re: Amphib gear selector

Good Day
I think you need to supply a little more information.
What kind of electric pump? Engine driven pump? How is your hand pump rigged into the system, will it work when you have a full electrical failure? And I think there are a couple more question?? #-o
Have fun

Re: Amphib gear selector

sorry for the missing info. It is a electric-hydraulic system with a manual backup.
Details can be seen at http://www.clamarfloats.com/downloads/O ... al2012.pdf
The manual pump is used in the event of an electrical actuating failure.

Re: Amphib gear selector

I'm not into building airplanes, but it seems to me that for something as critical as a landing gear switch, new makes better sense than salvaged. Look at this one from Aircraft Sprice, for $73.50: http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/e ... itches.php.

I suppose it goes without saying how critical it is to know that your gear is up before making a water landing. See this: http://www.aopa.org/Education/Safety-Vi ... urden.aspx.

Re: Amphib gear selector

Hey Cary,
Thanks for the reply. And a great video to watch and learn from.
I already have that exact switch and I just may go with that when the time comes next spring.
I had the chance to fly an amphib 185 a few weeks back and it used an actuating arm/knob with 8 gear up/gear down lights just to the left. Seemed like the whole package fit inside a 4 inch circle. I'm sure I sounds stupid describing it as such.
Perhaps it is for a hydraulic system in which a simple switch would not do the job.
Maybe someone knows a part number or somewhere to start looking?
Cheers

Re: Amphib gear selector

I suspect you may be looking for this system: http://www.parkrapidsaviation.com/index.cfm?PageID=6785 I have seen other similar systems advertised, although I'm not finding them right now.

You might consider joining seaplaneforum.com forum and the Seaplane Pilots Association (seaplanes.org), too. Lots of good info available for seaplanes from both of them, as well as here.
