I'm not an 'I-geek' and guess I am set in my ways of using Android for all my tablet and cell needs. Not the computer guru type, the android system has always been somewhat simple to use. I had a conversation with my son the other day and he wondered if I had heard any reviews on the DroidEFB app for Andrioid. Is anyone here using it? Any comments?
I have used Avare (free) in the past and it has fit my needs since I am the type that generally flies by looking out the window and maybe (if I'm lucky) has a current map. I do have a portable GPS that has the current sections on it so covered legally I guess. I am hoping to do some long cross country flights in the future, since I had to take a slight hiatus from flying for awhile recently. Slowly getting back into it and I am wanting to get a little more tech savvy. LOL

I've used DROID EFB since it first came out with a difference name and different ownership. The app is simple enough to use and provides enough useful information in an easily accessible format that I've stuck with it even through some corporate battles for control of the product. The original pilots/developers have had full ownership of the product for 2-3 years now and there haven't been any hiccups. They are REALLY responsive when requests for new features or a personal need for problem solving arises. I've crisscrossed the US several times with this software and ADSB in. I've been very happy with their accurate depiction of TFRs, weather, traffic and easily accessible information about nearby airports. Adding and deleting airports on a flight plan during the flight is a piece of cake and the app includes lots of user-friendly features. I tried AVARE, FlightAware and several other aviation packages for Android but this one met my needs best. They have a free trial period, so give it a whirl and see if it fits your needs and style of thinking.

I hate to be “that guy” who suggests something outside of what was asked in the original question. It sounds like you’re shopping for an app, though, so I’ll thriw another in for your consideration. iFly GPS from Adventure Pilot is an Android-friendly app you can look into. It runs on iOS, Android, and Windows devices in addition to their own dedicated hardware. And their subscription prices are quite reasonable.

I alao use Ifly and like it. Of course, we all tend to like "the one we use", but it works good, is pretty simple, it's $69.00 (IIRC) a year for updates. They are always adding features, they recently added synthetic vision at no extra cost. It works "stand alone", but to get real accurate pitch & roll, you need to connect a ahrs device. I installed their 740 in my panel, and have it on my phone also. I can create a flight plan on my phone, then, bluetooth it to the panel mounted 740 when I get to the airport. This is handy if it's a multi stop plan with a number of "rubber banded" alterations to go around high mountains, follow easy terrain, roads, etc. I can also bring it up on my computer, which, is nice to see the big picture to Iook across several states at once, but still see detail. I find that the little screens are a pain for flight planning, & end up with the paper chart layed out on the tail to see the whole route at once. They are a smaller company, you can call and talk to the owner, or the head software guy if you want/need to.
