I have tried both methods they are really close, I prefer the first method because you are not dealing with ASI inaccuracies.


But, you are setting the device by “feel”. My point being, if you can “feel” what it’s doing at altitude, you can probably do so at landing.

If it gives you a warm fuzzy, good deal. I’m ripping this one out at next annual. It is a POS.

Larry,

Do you ever see any heat related issues with the HUD part of the system?

My 182 lives outside in Arizona. Even though I have sun shades it does get warm inside during the summer. There are also the occasions where I forget to bring my shades with me on a trip and the glare shield gets that direct sun light.

No heat related problems at all, the first 6 years I had it I operated from Costa Rica, very hot, specially on the coast, even with no shades , no problems.
The kit comes with a cover you can put on top on the HUD.

Got another question for you Larry.

Getting close to pulling the trigger on the Eagle or Falcon but not sure if I want to dash mount or flush mount. I see that you have a flush mount, would you did it different if you had the chance?

What was your decision process for choosing the mount?

If you mount it over the glare shield, flush mounted with the HUD, you wont need to look into the panel when landing, it will be in the field of view,(I mount it a bit to the side)
Once you get to trust it you will never look at the instrument panel again, when landing or taking off, which is a great advantage.
Much better than panel mounted for sure, the extra money is totally worth it.
