Another copy of Steve’s Aircraft gascolators.
Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?
It has come to our attention of another copy of our gascolator design. GSM Gascolators has recently been added to Aircraft Spruce’s catalog. Although it is marketed as non FAA approved and for Experimental use only it is obviously a direct copy of ours. From the gold anodized finish of the cover to using the exact same size O-Ring and screen. He even plagiarized some of the wording we use on our website for it’s description.
I know who this is. I even sold him our gascolator last year. It is very disappointing to see yet another person and company take away some of our business in such a small market.
General aviation is by far one of the smallest markets to try to make a living out of. We are a small family run shop with only a few STC’s that have become popular. It is sad to see someone take part of that away. Especially when it can easily be misinterpreted as one of our designs.
Make no mistake. This is a direct copy with very minimal difference. With the exception of the bowl, it can easily be mistaken as one of our STC designs. I would hope that the aviation community would support the original and not this blatant copy.

Having met both Brian and Steve, this is a horsesh!t thing for someone to do. Couple of down to earth guys willing to help those of us without bottomless pit pockets.
I can see copying something for your own personal use, but to make a profit and sell through a distributor is unfathomable.
Is there any legal recourse for such a douche?

Would it help to "alert" Aircraft Spruce to the issue.

I used to have one of your gascolators on my Super Cub. It was a vast improvement over the glass bowl. I know you build quality parts and I don't want to see anyone getting ripped off.
Do you have a patent on your gascolator, and does that offer you any recourse or protection?

Got this E-Mail from Jim Irwin (Aircraft Spruce president)
Hi Steve,
Our marketing department saw your Facebook posting regarding the GSM gascolator, and I want to apologize for our taking on this product. We get a large volume of new products presented to us every month, and our team thought that this was simply a new product for the homebuilt market which would not conflict with your STC’d gascolators. We had nothing to do with the development or production of this gascolator, and added it as a new product without physically evaluating the product. We are removing the gascolator from our website immediately and will not offer it going forward. We have not sold any of this product to date.
I did e-mail back thanking him for their continued support
