Another new guy from AK
A general forum for anything related to flying the backcountry. Please check first if your new topic fits better into a more specific forum before posting.
I just found this forum and thought I would check in. I am about as new a pilot as you can get. I just completed ground school, passed the FAA test, got my physical and student certificate and I am currently trying to buy an airplane and find a taildragger cfi. I got bit by the bug to fly the first time I flew in on a hunting trip back in 2007 when I first got up here and now I am getting ready to retire from the Air Force and going to make that happen! Looking forward to learning from you guys and hopefully flying with some of you!

Welcome to the site! I used to live in Eagle River when I was stationed at Elmendorf in 05-06.

I ended up making an offer pending a prebuy inspection yesterday evening for a 7GCBC that is pretty nice. It is not a supercub, but will be a great plane for me to learn in and grow with until I can afford a supercub. I am going to be going stircrazy until he lets me know if he will accept it. Tundra, if you or anyone else are ever in the area let me know. I would love to get together with other pilots for a cup of coffee or a beer and talk flying!

I used to live in ER and PC many years ago, still have an X house and wife in ER.
Get through there a few times a year, will have to have a cup at Jitters.

I hope you are getting Skis for that bird too!
If you love flying, hanging out and having a few beverages at night in a sweet bar and telling lies, we do several fly out trips to a buddies lodge every year. Pike fishing through the ice is good too and its a great place to base out of for some fantastic scenery on day flying trips.

Ski's are part of the deal. I just have to get busy with the instruction if the deal goes through! Its going to be tough though now since its dark by the time I get home from work. Going to be just flying on the weekends and any days off I can squeak out!
The lodge sounds awesome. I also have a really nice cabin up the talkeetna river and we will be doing alot of flyins up that way!
