Another Wagon Back In the Air

I thought I'd share my Wagon project that just went from project, to flying project last Sunday. The plane hadn't flown in over 20 years. When I got the project, it already had some big improvements and was a good base to start building it up. I didn't know exactly how it was going to look when I finished, but there was plenty to do in the meantime. Besides, they are never really finished. Here's how its shaping up so far.

That looks fantastic! Glad to see another person going all in on these airframes. Can’t wait to hear more PIREPs.

Just curious - what did your empty weight come in at?

Great looking panel and control yokes! Looking forward to seeing more pics. Perhaps some of the seats and interior?

1978 lbs. I didn't go for lightness when building it back up.

Re: Another Wagon Back In the Air

I had the pleasure of watching Randy rebuild this 185 from scratch. He is a true craftsman with an incredible eye for detail. This plane was restored from a wrecked 185 float plane and the progression from total junk to an incredible flying machine is nothing short of truly amazing. I believe the BCP membership would love seeing some of the photos you have showing the progression of the restoration. The fact that this only took a year and was done basically by one person shows the commitment one person with a dream can make.

One step at a time!

Had to replace the Port and Starboard boot cowl. Glad I did, found existing damage on the firewall attach perimeter. Mac at Skywagon city was a big help with parts, as well as Global air parts and BAS. eBay did a lot of filling in as well…..the list goes on and on
