Re: Any recommendations for Northern Idaho

My uncle and I stayed at West Fork Lodge in Montana last October, and really enjoyed it. It is a quick fly-out to Moose Creek, Shearer and several others. Tex is a really great guy to visit with, and the prices are quite reasonable. I had an unforgettable steak for dinner there.

Get a hold of Willie Steen (Doth on BCP) and he can show you the northwestern Montana strips. Check out Ryan field while you're there. You can take the courtesy car and go see Glacier National Park.

Hey Gary,

I'll second what others have said. Magee is nice camping. Lots of mosquitos when we were there though. I love Elk River. Huckleberry ice cream, pie, and lemonade. And of course huckleberry pancakes. Seeley Lake is a great place too!

As of right now, we plan on being up in that area hitting a lot of these strips. We will be leaving on the 18-19th, and plan on doing the Plains fly-in. Maybe we will see you!

Have been to Westfork(Tex's) and agree, great spot and great guy. Will probly stop in on this trip. Pretty close to my favorite ice cream stop..........Elk City.

Cory, not sure about the PLains flyin, but will be in the area and may stop by. If I do, I will look for ya.
Rob
I have been talkin to Willie and will definitely stop and see him and hopefully do a little flyin with him.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Shoshone County Airport (S83) Kellogg has the cheepest fuel around, $5.70 per gallon, courtesy car to run into town. I own Leading Edge Aircraft Service doing maintenance, recovery service, rebuilds, repairs, inspections, modifications, etc. Stop in & say hi!!!

Re: Any recommendations for Northern Idaho

What's the camping situation at Moose Creek these days? Last time I was there, there were picnic tables and fire rings (it's been a while). I recall reading that the FS removed them but had a portable table they'd loan out. I'd rather not take our table if I don't need to. Thanks.

The camp sites at the west end of the field are the best in my opinion. Theres no tables or firerings. There are portable fire rings near the intersection of the runways. I lugged one of those to my campsite and returned it when we left. There's also a fold up tables with two small benches you can get from the caretaker at the FS cabin.

What if you want to camp at the old area and bring your own table.

That is fine; we do it all the time if there is room over there. Ya'll probably know this, but If landing on the short runway, don't land short. Best to touch down just before the RW intersections or else be ready for a rough ride. We like to roll up to the ranger station, shut down, and go fill up with as much water as we can then taxi to camp. Saves a lot of time and sore arms.

Ha! I was thinking the same thing. The wheels have got to roll back down to the camp one way or another. Might as well take on some water.

A group of us are possibly going to Moose Creek on 30th or July 1st for a couple days. Try our luck for some trout, Haven't been on the Selway since 1966.
