So I got some Atlee Dodge seats for the 170. I am planning to take them to Fine Line Interiors in Anchorage for covering- it sounds like they do them all the time. I am thinking of asking them to use the fabric off my old rear seat. It's in good shape, matches the rest of the interior, and I don't plan on saving the seat itself.

Has anybody seen any nice options when upholstering these seats? Special considerations to be aware of?

I'm thinking it might also be a good time to redo the floor covering and the rear seat belts. I was thinking to call BAS and order up a set of lap belts to match the front-row inertia reels. I've heard they will do this for you.

Any thoughts are welcome. The goal is utility, light-weight, and not too stiff in the cold, with a nod to looks.

My BAS belts actually just arrived today for my Atlees. Good choice... Nice indeed.

Make sure your upholstery guy does em nice and thin so the fold up flush. I posted pics of what I did on my thread. Ron at Aviation Creations made super thin ones that are quick removable and fold perfectly flush. (Comfy too)

When we covered my LakeVue seats we made the seat back cover removable.
Pull it off the back frame and put the foam on either side, for comfort or folding the seat up.

Use fairly thin confor foam at least for the seat bottoms. It can be pretty thin and still afford a lot of comfort. Backs can be conventional foam. Lots of folks concerned about stiff HD foam in cold WX but I used in northern AK in several planes, often overnighting outside in very cold temps. It's pretty board-like at first, but you "melt" into it pretty fast. Nice stuff, IMHO.

A few years ago I sent my pilot seat out to Oregon Aero for their magic, and although pricey, it was worth it--8 hours of flying in a day isn't difficult at all. But except in really warm summer weather, the first few minutes are like sitting on a board--and then it warms up and starts to conform. Wonderful stuff!

Totally. On the list to install this week.... Although they are not really BAS. I ordered them from Jim, but they came right from AmSafe. No logo on the buckles.

When I installed a single jumpseat in the back of my old C170, I used the nutplate in the floor at the center-rear bench seat attach to mount a swivelling eyebolt for the inboard end of the belt. I installed a round track-style cargo ring mount which uses a detachable cargo ring for the outboard end. I had to install a big doubler for this under the floorboards since it wasn't actually attached directly to any structural members. I seem to recall seeing some people just use cargo rings in the Atlee-Dodge tracks that the seat slides back & forth in.

Thanks. What you describe above is actually the intended, approved method of attaching a lapbelt with the atlee dodge seats, provided you also use metal clips on the end of the seatbelt webbing. I was by the Atlee shop today. He said that a lot of people will tie the webbing off to the cargo ring, but that is contrary to the FARs, which require metal on metal at that location.
