Anyone running ios 7 on older iPad with success?
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
I have an iPad 2 that works great for everything I use it for. I have thus far avoided upgrading to ios 7 for a variety of reasons, but am considering it in order to run the latest version of FF.
Any of you guys using an older iDevice with ios 7 without any problems? It basically turned my wife's old iPhone 4 into a brick so I'd rather not do that to my trusty iPad. I am not running the Pro version of FF and am only flying VFR in an ancient c150, so maybe I'm not missing anything using the older version anyway?

I have IOS 7 and the latest Foreflight on my iPad 2. Works fine for me!
(I do iOS development for work, so I've had iOS 7 on there since the early betas. )

We've been upgraded since it came out on my wife's iPad 2. Runs smooth and fast and foreflight works great on it!

Great! Thanks for the snappy responses guys.
Any perks that really stand out with the newest version of FF that you can think of?

iOS 8 REALLY slowed my iPad2. So much so it takes up to 3-5 seconds to start safari. Foreflight takes about 5-7 seconds to start and a few more seconds to be fully operational. Wish I wouldn't have updated. I may have to upgrade equipment, but I suppose that's what they want.

Dang, that sucks.
I got sidetracked with some household chores yesterday and didn't end up updating the iPad. I think I'll skip it now.

Shoot, I had a feeling that was going to be the case. Propeller, thanks for taking one for the team. It's a shame it's not easier to downgrade back to the previous ios. (or even possible?)
Looks like I'll run 7 for as long as I can stand and start shopping for a new one.

Downloaded 8 onto the iPad 3 and it's got some bugs. Lost maps and airspace and can't get them back for a soaring app (iglide) Foreflight seems to be working right. Getting onto BCP is a bit slow and I'm having to sign on every time. Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that somebody at millionaire at Yuma dropped this ipad on the way to the rental car Saturday morning cracked the screen

BTW it wasn't me

I just bought the I pad mini and the next day I was informed of IOS 8. I installed it with no problems. My I phone 4 was operating on it's original system and had been prompting me to update forever and I just never did. However, I read that are distinct advantages to having your phone and I pad running on IOS 8 so I updated both in Sunday. I did not recognize any changes in my I pad mini (too new to me), but my I phone 4 is noticeably faster and much better on a number of levels such as the camera, how quickly it connects a hot spot to my computer, the quality of the speaker phone when used and even the alarm clock function. I am most happy with my experience with IOS 8 so far.

My Foreflight works fine with ios 8, but Star Chart crashes, Safari is real slooooooooooooow, and my bank app is buggy. The apps are promising fixes, so I have fingers crossed that they do. It amazing how much I actually depend on this ipad, my desktop and phone are pretty much dust gatherers unless I'm needing a real keypad or on the road.

I bought an Ipad Air prior to deployment and it is the only connection back to my family. I waited for a couple reports to come back on IOS 8 before updating. Most apps seem to run faster and the transition from one app to another is, in my opinion, noticeably quicker.
I'm relegated to making airplane noises while "flying" routes in foreflight. It's running terrific for me. No issues. Disclaimer: this is only using the flight planning functions. Won't be able to test it out in the airplane until December.
If I could just get my internet fast enough to watch glassy water videos, I'd be golden.

So, to summarize this thread. You definitely shouldn't upgrade to 8 because it will make your device much slower, unless it speeds it up. Also apps might be slower or faster and buggy or not.
For me. I forgot mine in the plane a couple days ago. There's no app to fix that problem.

The thing I've noticed with new iOS releases is that X.0 is usually wrought with bugs or incompatibilities, and if it isn't the OS then it's the app developers catching up. What's really so important in the new OS that you can't wait until 8.0.2 ?

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”
Sounds the usual apple story: "Man this works great, except when it doesn't!"
I agree about the first run of the new OS usually being all screwed up. I've made pretty good habit of waiting until the second or third updates come out, when they've worked most of the bugs out. The bigger problem for me though, is using all these ancient devices. My iPhone 4 (which I throw in my bag as a backup) is practically crippled on iOS 7 already, but still works well enough to not throw away. I rely on my iPad 2 much more though, to the point where it's a better option to avoid the new OS altogether if it's going to turn it into a brick.
I know I eventually need to get a new one, but I'd rather spend the money on gas.

Yup. And Windows and Linux and Toyotas and Fords.
As a species we seem really good at hitting shipping deadlines, regardless of whether the products are ready!
