Apple iOS 8.3 update is resolved with the iOS 8.4

"...Customer,

We are happy to report that the GPS accessory compatibility issue that resulted from the Apple iOS 8.3 update is resolved with the iOS 8.4 update released this morning. We have performed a quality review of the Bad Elf GPS Pro, Bad Elf GPS Pro+, Dual XGPS150, and Dual XGPS160 on a Wi-Fi iPad running iOS 8.4 and these devices perform as expected. Stratus 1 and Stratus 2 devices were not affected by this issue. We have also started our general ForeFlight Mobile compatibility testing of the final version of iOS 8.4.

If you wish to resume use of your affected GPS accessories, then you can upgrade to iOS 8.4. If you do not need immediate access to the affected GPS accessories, then you can opt to wait until ForeFlight completes its compatibility testing of the final iOS 8.4 release. We will follow up with an ‘all clear’ notice when that testing is complete.

Got the "all clear" notice a couple days ago and updated both my iPad Mini and iPhone 5s to 8.4. All seems to work as it should.

Got this from AOPA

It was nice that Garmin did a software update instead of waiting for Apple to get off the pot.

I suspect that Apple isn't as quick to respond to aviation concerns as they could be, because we're a drop in their huge bucket.

The garmin GLO firmware update didn't work on my iPad 2, and according to foreflight only worked on Apple devices with a lightning connector.

Odd, worked perfectly on mine, but then again I am running an older iOS version so I may not be seeing the bugs. I have talked to others that were running 8.3 and their Glo's were doing just fine.

Anyone running the latest ios on an older ipad? I'm still using 7 on my ipad 2 and, as usual, am a little apprehensive to install the latest for fear of slowing it down any further.

Public Service Announcement

Might be old news, but it was new to me.

I just upgraded my iPad from iOS 8.2 to 8.4.

Now the internal GPS works even in airplane mode. Prior to this, I had to make sure WiFi was on, or else the GPS chip was disabled.

I like this much better.

Good news. Thank you for the info. I'll try it on mine...
