Yes, I land off-airport with a tricycle gear aircraft. Very carefully. Which is also how I land off-airport with taildraggers.

OP, you need to define what off-airport means to you and post it here. Then you can get a more definitive and valuable response. Half the places I fly you'd need a 42" Bushwheel on the front and 35's on the mains, the other half, except for landing distance, a big tire trike could probably land with a good pilot at the stick.

I thought this trigear was a steal. Not sure how capable it would be "off airport", but I've seen some videos of a guy in an old 172 that lands on some crazy stuff....

Really depends on how extreme you want to go 'off airport'. Ok yes a tail draggers are personally the better aircraft in my opinion however that's not to say there isn't plenty of off airport spots you can't go in a nose dragger. You just won't be able to go everywhere.

Biggest thing really is what aircraft can you get the most out of? If you are not a very confident tail wheel pilot but can make a nose wheel sing, then do you that is the best off airport machine. As I said, you'll just have to be a bit more cautious as to where you go

I would take a trike over a TW on the beaches any day, especially beaches with a steep slope to the water and a off-shore breeze blowing, or, woopty doos, or even worse both at the same time.

Today at Kaguyak was certainly no fun with the 185.
