Australian fly in?

put a call out there to the Aussies a while ago, didnt hear boo but a few more of you have emerged recently so i thought I would give it a go. thought about hosting a fly in for BCP members over here, show the yank fellas how we do it down under (even if Im actually going to pretty well just stealing Kevins HSF ideas....so Im making him an honorary Aussie so we can still claim them!)

anyway I originally suggest having the fly in at one of my bush strips in the drake/Tabulam, but given how stretched out we all are, maybe a bit more southern location might be better. But I just thought I would put a call out there for expressions of interest, and suggested locations/time of year.

Yeah! I really like your pictures of the boat! I envy your setup Downunder...

The Coral Sea is a protected lagoon the size of California! Est. 8,000 islands! Would love to explore in your boat! Last November I drove 2500 miles to Cape Tribulation and back to Hervey Bay. It was like Baja on steroids!

Re: Australian fly in?

I could be interested, let's see Tim, that would be you and me ... Perhaps Ultralights? Ummm not much of a flyin but still could be fun. What we need is a list of locations in the back country, preferably with some swimming, the possibility of a big fire, good camping. Any suggestions?

8GCBC: You got me worried ... You will need to learn to drive on the correct side of the road. Might be safer for someone to fly you in
A seat in my Scout may be possible too.

yeah I knew it would be a small one to start, the 2 of us and hopefully ulralights as a start, but I was also hoping we could use it as a stepping stone to get a few more members involved down here. though not to public! I left recreational flying to come to this forum because I got so sick of all the plastic fantastic jabiru flyers who in there 40 solo hours of flying know more about the sport than bob hoover. dont want to fill this site up with them.

Rob fox, editor of flight path magazine and bird dog owner is keen, so is one of his 180 flying mates, there from victoria. I have a 180 flyer, 170 flyer and Storch flyer from round here who would like to come, probably a couple of drifter drivers (I know a few of them), there's a maul flyer from casino who would like to come and also has a strip at Tenterfield on the river with cabins ect. he also owns a station at mungandai. I rekon Nigel arnot out of boonah would want to bring either his wilga or super cub. got a foxbat out of jacobs well, both matt hall wants said that if I held one he would bring his super cub, and paul bennet wants to bring his O2, but given how well they get along I think we would see one or the other. ect ect.

all these guys have talked about joining up on here, my thoughts are what a way to encourage them! location would be the hardest part though as there pretty far stretched. I have alot of places around here that would be perfect, but thats a fair hike for some (mainly you!)

Oh yeah, and macca from the gliding club wants to come...but....ummm....well yeah........

This seppo would love to visit Oz. Your backcountry kinds scares me though; seems like everything is lethally venomous and pinchy.

I would contribute to a special fundraiser to send you to make a short film about the fly-in.

I was in the Sydney area this year, but will be in Perth for two weeks this coming April. Let me know where this takes place. I may have a spare week at the end of the trip.

Wondering why everyone was yelling at me.

Bob, I would love to put some gas money into your Scout one day. I flew with Timbo, and had an absolute blast!

Heh heh... an old girlfriend who'd done a semester in Sydney explained that one to me. Pretty funny:

Yankees...yanks...tanks...septic tanks... seppos.

You fly across to the mainland very often, Bob? Is that kinda puckery?

Re: Australian fly in?

It's not too bad Zane, I do it 3 - 4 times per year, a few islands on the way and a raft for comfort. I am usually stoked to be going on holiday when I head north so I don't think about it and when I head south I am stoked to be going home.

I called one American a seppo once and got a very cool reply; "sorry Bob, I am a southerner". I then got educated on the Mason Dixon line.
