lol. not bad.

next time you can school him that the US isn't the sole arbiter of the english language and that outside the country it means he's a yankee too. he'll hate that. ;-)

you might have to define arbiter. ;-)

Zane, you forgot one step the septic tank yank then to seppo.

I lived (really survived) for several years in Port Hedland, good god there are no reasons to do that again [-X , good fishing and the beer was cold but that was it.

Did like the flying out of Jandakot and Beverly though.

Re: Australian fly in?

I was thinking maybe in the vicinity somewhere, I know the area well in the northern section of that box, but only know the bottom half of that box by road. in the top of that box is Brewarrina, I will be flying out there in a few weeks, I could do some sussing out if thats a region you guys are interested in?

Re: Australian fly in?

haha ted! its all good! i thought we where looking at about that vacinity to, till i checked and started to get a bit nervous!

on a serious note though to those who are considering it, how would the tilpa/louth/bourke vacinity work? I have a fair few connections in that area, or even up to as I said the Brewarrina area. would rather find a place thats more red soil than black soil incase it rains. I mean as bad as wet bull dust can get, a black soil bog will have as stuck for a week

Re: Australian fly in?

So guys do we have any other suggestions of locations? I have been doing some ringing around and have an ok on a couple of properties but they are as i said either a bit to far north or a fair way out. Though we do have a new member who has just singed up that may have some location ideas, 51C170.

Im tim by the way mate from lismore region. If your an ag flyer you probably know a bunch of great strips! Can you think of anywhere central to tassie adelaide sydney and lismore?

I was looking at doing a trip to the snowys last year, but the timing and finances didn't work out. There are some nice looking grass strips, and lakes to explore. Should be nice weather around May, not to hot not too cold. Just a thought. :)

Re: Australian fly in?

Hey guys. So I have had some thoughts on destinations, they may be a bit far north though so still ears are very peeled for suggestions. This is just the area I know

Drake/Tenterfield.
There is a number of strips in this area, and they are proper bush strips, on private property ect, the drake strips are near by rivers with shooting ect in the area, and a very very cruisey property owner. The Tenterfield strip is right on the river, great fishing ect with cabins and so on on site.

Camden haven
This stip is right near the coast and runs right next to a nice river. Not so much bush flying in the area though. But has a couple of cabins on site for anyone who wants to take the lazy bugger approach.

Armidale
This would be a good site for a first fly in, bushy enough but not so bushy that where stuck hundreds of kilometres from bugger all. The strip Im thinking about is a private strip a couple of hundred k’s out of Armidale. Privately owned WITH A BAR ON SITE! The fella tat owns this strip has his own 185, plus lachie onslow would be keen to come to this one with his beaver. I think this would be worth solid consideration

Lake keepit
Well facilited with 2 strips right on the beautiful lake, right near Gunnedah and Tamworth, great fishing ect. There is a choice between the gliding club strip and the sport and rec facility strip. Plenty of great little spots to put down on the banks of the lake aswell.

Emdale
Emdale is a great strip, proper outback between cobar and Wilcannia. Strip sits directly opposite the emdale road house….meaning beer! The road house is run by tex and viv and there fantastic, I get in there a lot, and love it. Fairly out of the way though. Would defiantly work well but is it a bit to far out of the way for a first run!?

Anyway I havnt done any enquiring into these locations, thought I would get feed back first as to what you guys think. Also don’t hesitate to suggest more! There just ones I know about but there fairly out of the way for a lot of you.

Definatly a serious contender! I thought about it to and still am! I thought of 2 downfalls with it (but there certainly not write offs). thers a good chance there will be a couple of other drifters and a storch coming down with me, and thats a LONG way to go at 50 knots. also to its nt great country to burn around over at 50 knots. having said that an engine failure in the middle of the outback is not a pace you want to be either! believe me!

Beer and beaver? Armidale has my vote!

Oh, beer and A Beaver... Yeah, I'm still good with that... :D :D

Bourke area, Tilpa, are all good and central, Brewarrina is also good and central. The box looks good and central.

Re: Australian fly in?

I don't know most of those strips but heck I will come to any of them. The Dig Tree is also worth considering, great place, middle of nowhere. Nowhere near the box and a long way for a Drifter but it is smack in the middle of Aus (almost).

Re: Australian fly in?

Alright leave it with me, ill see what i can come up with. On another note, if any of our friends from across the pond are serious about wanting to come, would be great to get an idea when that might work in with you. Im looking at the may june period based on kev suggesting he might be able to come then. But would love a bit more feed back on that

Re: Australian fly in?

Hey Ash,

You been to Dalhousie lately? Rumour has it its been closed and permission is not possible. I am planning a flight that way soon and wondered on the chance of being hassled if I dropped in and pleaded ignorance in the (unlikely) event of needing forgiveness ...

Any idea?
