Autumn Johnson Creek Rally in the Valley

Does anybody want to meet up at Johnson Creek this weekend? I'm here from Ohio working on a video and would love to have some local perspective.

I'll be there around noon (Saturday the 28th). If you're camera shy it would still be cool to meet up. I'm pretty sure there is wifi there, so email is best: gregswingleATgmail[DOT]com

It's good to be here finally. It took a week from Ohio. Woowee.

Greg, just missed you as we split today before the next system comes in. We spent the last week over there. Go up to Cold Meadows for some "cool" video options.........Image

Ice cold photo! Sorry we missed that. I've got all my thermal underwear(s) on now.
It sounds like we may be rollin solo [with BCP apparel on over thermals] , but we might blaze through Montana or back down Cascade/Smiley really soon if anyone wants to meet up for a coffee or such.

Or not...you never know with that WX.

Re: Autumn Johnson Creek Rally in the Valley

Thought I'd bump this up

I've been glued to the JC webcam, man I hope that Ohio crew has plenty of food and is staying dry, it's been pretty grim looking there for the last two days. Seems to be socked in, rainy, and chilly. If you are fed, warm, and dry, like I am, appreciate it! It's been blowing mid to upper 30's at my place since Fri. night, non stop.

Spirits are high in the Valley despite the drizzle. Big bash tonight in my tent if anyone can make it. Should be off the hook. We may streak the web cam with glow sticks. The wifi is turned off at JCreek but we made it to Yellow Pine for a fresh set of socks and glow sticks.
Thanks for the visit Simko. Youz a bad mammy jammy.

Not where I want to be sitting, no internet, crap wx, and waiting for better wx. You better be ready to make a run for better wx when you get a break.

I'm just glad to hear they haven't been drug off by wolves, yet.

Look at the bright side: plenty of tie down spaces, your choice of camp sites, no waiting for the bathroom, and so on and so forth. Even with all that, I'll bet when it clears they'll be out of there like being shot out of a cannon. [-o<

Sober and ready. We may be the only folk here who can claim that. We just got a personal tour of the tavern which was kinda cool. A couple carved their initials in the bar in the fifties. They just came back to take a photo of it 60 yrs later. It only took eight days to get here so we don't mind "being stuck". Savor the flavor.
The next break doesn't appear to be until dusk tomorrow. If anyone can figure out how to send us a smoke signal that a hole is blowing in do it. Wez about to go back off of the grid.

I am about 100 miles to the NW, rain, blowing and cold now forecast still looking pretty ugly until Wednesday. Luckily Yellow Pine has all the essentials.

A couple weeks ago at Reno we were committing on the heat. The wx Gods must have been listening. Go figure

Although I do wish I were out west somewhere, Greg, you are missing some of the best weather we have had all year back in the Buckeye state. Tell Lindsey I said wassup!

Stay safe Swingle. If you guys need a break on the way home, stop by KSAC or anywhere else near Folsom, and there's a nice guest room with your name on it. Well, yours and the dogs - but he's a cuddler. Got a car you can use too. Heck, if you aren't worn out, we can even go flying. Low and Slow, or low and fast. ;)

Re: Autumn Johnson Creek Rally in the Valley

In between picking bunks of trusses on a new Holiday Inn Express, I was keeping a close eye on the JC web cam, ( which loads on my smart phone super fast for some reason, faster then anything else, like a second or two) and at about 11 I finally saw movement! They are outa there. =D> I was also checking the weather station during the same period at the ski area right behind my place, and saw a peak gust of 61 mph, and that is with the anonometer in a bad location, so it's been a bit breezy here the last 3 days. In fact, I've seen the highest total KWH from my wind turbine then I've seen since putting it up 7 years ago, this tells me not only has it been windy, but CONSTANTLY windy, as it if dies down for more then 10 minutes it reboots to zero. So, depending on which way they went from JC, it could have been interesting  Then I got back to work. #-o

I just checked the Smiley Cr webcam. Looks like an Ohio plane there.

Re: Autumn Johnson Creek Rally in the Valley

It WAS a handful! We made it to Bruce Meadows and put her down and waited or he clouds to blow off of the drainage to Stanley...then walked to town for four gallons of gas and a gallon of coffee. Then we bolted on our belly pod and loaded 70 lbs of cargo we didnt need or the mission...visited with Mrs Danner at the old charter service...then coaxed the plane off of the ground faced the cross wind and fought for every foot of altitude...Then we surfed and jolted and milked and begged our way to Smiley where the surface is sublime but the air above want to rip attach points off of spars. The joint is closed until Christmas but they left the wifi on for the time being. Blazing home in th morn. Thanks for sort of like looking out for us rot of and or making fun of he winter in September vacation. XO. Greg
