Avionics upgrade time

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Re: Avionics upgrade time

I'm a pretty good IFR pilot and I enjoy flying at night. That said, I find that as I get older I would rather avoid single-engine hard IFR if at all possible - and since I am based from an unlighted grass strip I pretty much avoid night flying as well. Regardless, I want to have something in my panel that will let me get out of a bind if I get socked in. We all try to avoid this, but we also all know that it happens.

So tell me, VFR dayrunners, what do you want in your panel as of today? Also what would be your basic (okay, I'll just say it - cheap bastard) dream setup if you are socked in on your day VFR mousing around?

I know the type you're talking about, but the guys I mentioned aren't that way. In fact, quite the opposite, they guys I'm thinking of are good sticks and better STOL operators than I am and probably better than I ever will be.
