Back from Oshkosh 2013 - Carbon Cubs and P51's

Just got back from EAA AirVenture 2013. Got to ferry a new Carbon Cub from Yakima out to Wisconson, but the highlight of the trip was when the new Carbon Cub owner gave me a backseat ride in his 1944 P51-D Mustang. :D

Wow, what a ride!

Oh oh., danger, danger, Red alert!!! Dreaded Top Gun music ahead. Prepare for immediate deployment of air sickness bags.
Got a version of this video where as pilots we would just love to hear the sound of that Merlin Now that is real music.
All Top Gun tracks should be banished into the deep ocean or fired off into outer space... No I guess we can't do that. Aliens could get a hold of it and declare universal war on us some day.

Yeah, I agree it was cliche, but after sorting through itunes for a couple hours I was tired of looking. Lack of imagination on my part, sorry. I agree with you on the sound (and the smell and the feel) of the RR Merlin engine. That was awesome. Later on in the week, we were doing a familiarization flight in the Carbon Cub and had OLD CROW fly over us at a little grass strip north of Oshkosh... About 50' above the cub, with the prop dialed all the way back, and at full power... that will rattle your bones.

That flyby at camp Cubcrafters was money...just wish I had the camera ready. It even impressed the girlfriend and not much impresses her.

I can't imagine a hangar with both a P51 and a Carbon Cub. The universe has not distributed toys very evenly...

Glad you got the ride so we could enjoy it vicariously. Buying a ride in a P51 at Stallion51 costs about $2500, so you were treated to an expensive little gift.

Very cool, one of the great perks of being a CubCrafters employee. :)

Side banter: where is the OSH 2013 photo thread?
