Hi all,
The 4th (almost) annual Bacon Strip Ranch Fly-In Campout is October 13-14. If you recall, there has been an effort to replace the old shade roof (that blew down last year) with a new one.
I am pleased to report the NEW all metal, 625 square foot, 100 MPH rated shade roof is in place and ready to party under! The official name for it is 'Johnny B's Bar and Grill". I can attest to the quality of the shade, as i have camped under it twice since the 'gala erection' in May.
The main focus (that is, the excuse to fly out and camp) is the official christening of "Johnny B's" on Saturday night. Expect a low to medium key party atmosphere and a glorious Mojave Desert evening!
What I like about the Bacon Strip is you can stand at night and look a full 360 degrees and not see a single man made light anywhere (except maybe on an overhead airliner, but that doesn't count). It's great!!
The Bacon Strip Ranch is located about 30 miles NE of Barstow-Daggett airport. 34 degrees, 59.78 minutes N; 116 degrees, 10.9 minutes west. Elevation 1160 feet. The landing strip is a smooth, sandy base dry lake over 2000' with no obstructions. It's an easy strip to land at. There is a sock and five permanent tie downs, an outhouse (a genuine two-holer)several charcoal barbecues, a fire ring and benches, and tables and chairs for (15) people under the new roof.

One more thing - On behalf of the BSR owner John Bacon, I want to sincerely thank all the enthusiasts from this forum who belived in the cause and donated money for the new shade roof. THANK YOU! Some contributers were thousands of miles away but still wanted to be a part of this unique desert fly-in camp. How cool is that? As promised, a solid granite plaque engraved with all the names of the contributors will be unveiled at the Oct fly -in. (And it's still not too late to get your name on it).
Do come out and get some dirt on your tires! The Bacon Strip awaits you!
Clear Skies,
