Bearhawk boys - Question on Placard
Aircraft building and project-level overhaul forum -- Kitplanes, experimental amateur-built, homebuilding, or even restoration of certified aircraft.
For those bearhawk guys, (or really any other exp builders) where did you guys place your "EXPERIMENTAL" placards? And how much leeway did the FAA give you on checkout as to their placement?
I hate those things, they are HUGE! Everywhere I put them they look gaudy and out of place....
Maybe just my OCD again...

A pic would be great!

Well, not the best photo, but gives you a good idea of where I put mine. Whoever does your inspection may or may not approve of your location so I'd suggest having an extra sticker or two when it get's the final inspection so you can take care of any "items" they come up with. The fellow who did my inspection was great, but he wanted to see more placards. I had a label maker handy and just took care of what ever he wanted done while he watched. Win-win, we were both happy and I got the sign off first go-around.

.
I have always wondered how the DAR or FAA Inspector would react if you misspelled " EXPERIMENTAL"
Say Experimentle or Expermental".. maybe even reverse the N or the R for cheap thrills.

Nice pic! Thx!
That's perfect, the regs seem to indicate an "EXPERIMENTAL" placard needs to be installed in a visible place from each entry to the aircraft. The FAA inspector was ok with just the one sticker above the baggage/rear seat? (With respect to the Pilots seat)? If so, you just made my day!
I was trying to stick another gigantic sticker in a visible place for the pilot's entry... but your tip on bringing another sticker to the checkout is a great idea.

I put mine on the top of the baggage bulkhead. Sorry, don't have a picture handy.

What about having an X after the N in the n number NX12345? I thought if you do that you don't have to put the experimental on it

Mine is in view of the passenger inside the cockpit. Can be easily seen with the door open upon entry from either side. No issue with inspector. I didn't go the DAR route as there isn't one within 600 miles. Got the FAA guys to do it.

I recently learned that this only applies to replica builds. For an experimental category build not being a replica of anything like the BH, you must still use the placard.
I too, was excited by the NX thing when I first heard it.

Half a century spent proving “it is better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.”

They don't define replica, mighty similar to a Pacer or Maule, but we know how they like to keep it narrow. After 2020, the NX... option will work because Proto 1 got it's a/w certificate in 1990. FAR part 45.22(b)(1)(ii). 2" letters will be okay as well.
Does anyone know if Canada will allow it to operate in their airspace? Guessing it would be fine unless you ask them.

I found the answer to my question on my "Standardized Validation..." papers that are required by Canada to be on board an experimental to operate in Canada. As long as it meets US requirements, it is okay.
