just over here dreaming of what plane I might buy. and one thing that stands out to me on all my options is the limited space for odd sized/shaped things.

Which lead me to researching on belly pods, per a Maule website, it seems the Carbon ConceptS might be working on a pod. but its not quite ready yet, is there anyone else out there that makes a pod?

I've never seen a pod for a Maule (doesn't mean they don't exist, I'm not in the market for one), but the cargo doors on the maule are really popular for odd shaped items. That's what I'd verify first before I gave up precious pounds on a belly pod for a plane that already has a modest useful load.

I'm with ya. Just curious more than anything else. Often times I expect it won't be weight that holds me back but cubic feet

Yeah, the double doors are sweet tho.
I flew a complete Franklin 220hp engine with accessories home in the back of a M5.
Tied down to the pallet. Used an Automotive engine hoist to put it in back.
Hard to go back loading other aircraft after that.

Loading most 4 place airplanes is a chore--that's why there have been various baggage door mods created, I suppose. The easiest way that many use is to use quick release hinge pins, so that the entire door can be removed. It's amazing how much easier it is when the door isn't in the way. Pull the passenger seat and back seat, and it's like loading a cavern.

Nice barn doors such as are on 206s eliminate that issue, so if really bulky is on the menu, that's the way to go.

I have a few other planes on my list of possibilities, but loading cargo is very important, so the maule is pushing its way to the top of the list.

I love the idea of a Stinson, but I feel there isn't much for options on baggage doors/pods/etc. most of the flying will be with me and my fiancé only. so back seats will come out most of the time.

Last i talked to randy at carbon concepts they were waiting for somebody to volunteer their maule or fusalage to finalize ideas for belly pod. Said there was definitely interest in it. I think it would be a nice option. Wish i was closer, i would let them use mine

well keep us updated on what might be. seemed like there was a lot of desire for them.

Again, I am way far away from purchasing anything, just like options. and researching, and teasing myself with possibilities.

Most Maule pilots I know already have a belly pod... ba-da-pa!!!

Only the spring gear Maules could really benefit from a belly pod.
On the oleo gear, the struts get in the way of the pod. The Bearhawk has the same challenge.

Battson beat me too it. I think that's why previous Maule pod projects have not been completed. I'm still building one for my BH but with its limited utility I don't think it would be worth certification.

ohh now that makes sense.

I have heard getting something certified is/can be a huge P.I.A. true? or just a lot of leg work?

I am hoping Randy gets the pod built ill take two of them one for the tri gear and one for the M7. It will solve the problem of hauling skis and long material. Also wing covers and bulky items. Should not be any different than installing one on a cub.
